Anyone ever think about doing an LSX swap in a Porsche 944?

Seems like you see a lot of older RX-7's with the LSX swap done. What about the Porsche 944? IMO, its a great looking car, and they can be picked up for cheep. I have no idea what all is involved in the swap past having enough room under the hood, but I would think if it could be done, it would be a awesome little car.
Anyone ever look into this before?

I did find one or two out there that have been done, but very little info on the cars. So it IS possible.
If I were going to do a budget wicked little car, it would most likely come in a car like this. I found a few 944's out there for under $1,000.
What I would really like to know, now that I know that the engine will fit, is what else is involved. What do people do for rears? What kind of specific modding is needed to fit the motor and tranny?

Most use the 944 turbo tranny and there have been plenty of 968's, 928's, and 924's done. Many use sbc.
The 968 is sick since it uses the rear mounted trans w/torque tube (before the C5). 50/50 weight and great tire/wheel combo possibilities.
I've got an excellence mag that has a Ls6 968 featured with a small cam (not listed for the snobby P guys), Ls6 intake, custom LT's, no heads listed (probably untouched 243's). Claims 400 rwhp/rwtq and says it surprises lots of (stock) 911's round a track.
Do it.

And yeah, the parts are stupid expensive. 100 per axle brake pads, 1100 spark plug wires, proprietary wheel bolt pattern (expensive wheels), and every shop (safety/emissions inspections much?) you go to looks at you like your insane. Keep it to yourself unless the car is in front of them. BLASPHEMY!!!

Depending on the body really. The last one I saw, it even ran but was beat to living hell. Dents, and damage everywhere, and rust galore. I dont mind a few dents, cause i kinda like that "beater sleeper" look for my race car.

Problem with the 944s is that they have a rear mounted transaxle like the vettes. So you have to mate the ls1 to the stock transaxle which is where most of the cost is, but renegade also overcharges for everything in the package. Even the mounts are more expesive than the RX7 mounts.
The rx7 is most common because its not only the cheapest but also the easiest and most well covered option

Im in the process of doing one..... not a common swap, but its out there...
I bought my parts here: http://www.944v8s.com/Products.html
you use a c5 m6 bellhousing....yata yata yata
your best bet is to find a 944 turbo aka 951 since it has bigger brakes, good trans ect ect

Still the biggest issue I run into with the 944 is the strength of the rear end. and the lack of cheap stronger options
