exhaust gas temp/a/f ratio
hi guys, finally got some extra money to spend so finally going to buy some more stuff for my STANG. would an exhaust gas temperature gauge and a/f gauge be over kill for a 300 shot? and one for each exhaust stream be way over kill? (2 a/f and 2 exhaust temp gauges) tuning the car myself so really just trying to tune it to the extreme. and don't worry, just bought heads cam intake for my ws6 so that car gets love also

To provide effective tuning information, you will need an EGT in each header primary This is basically the precise high tech way of telling what the cylinders are doing, high tech version of plug reading. A down stream EGT really tells you very little as far as nitrous tuning.
The 2 af gauges are a good idea, but overkill in my mind. Reading the plugs will tell you much more than two AF gauges.

thanks for the feedback ryarbrough, i have herd that i need to do a wot pass then immediately shut the car down, to read the plugs.. seen a couple threads about it but it didn't explain a whole lot.. and i guess one egt gauge and a/f gauge on the #1 cylinder side of the exhaust should be ok just to give me a clue on how the car is running.

Not really pointless but they aren't really what you tune off of, that's the plugs.
The A/F gauge is pointless IMO, the EGT setup would be nice but unless you have an aftermarket ECM you aren't going to be able to adjust timing per cylinder, you are just going to have to make adjustments with jetting if you are running a DP.
Invest in a good flow gauge and a good scope for reading plugs.

Your best bet is to give Mike Murillo a call and ask him about this. He had this same system you are talking of purchasing on "Buckwheat" (the 2001 C5 Z06Corvette he drove to 9.93 @ 145 on the stock bottom end). He is as close to an expert on this matter than any. Just look up Murillo Motorsports in San Antonio, TX. He is a Mustang guy through and through and just did the Corvette to show up the local LS guys.

Our pro mod runs an o2 in each primary pipe into a wide band and we data log from this information we make our changes accordingly. I have also used egts in the same fashion you can only fine tune nitrous when you have the info to tune from.

^^^ I agree with Baked. Seems like either WBO2s or EGTs in each primary would only tell half the story (O2's for AF and EGT's for timing). Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I'd think you'd need both in each primary (read - really effing complicated EMS) to effectively tune without looking at the plugs.
