243 heads with stock ls1 cam
i need to change my head gaskets and since i'm taking off the heads i figured 243's flow a bit better and i can get a good deal on 243 heads. but i won't do a cam swap this year since i don't have the money, i know it's not going to be a large increase, but will there be any performance gains from an easy swap.

i swapped a set of 243s onto an 04 GTO with just those and long tubes it was night and day. i cant remember right off hang the dyno numbers but i want to say the were around the 20 to 25hp range.
thats shooting low since i dont want to hear a bunch of bitching from ninnys that say it cant be done.
id go for it. they are much better than the 241s you got on there now.

Go for it.. if you can swing it put a set of 918s or springs that will accomodate the size of camshaft you think you will go with later down the road to make your swap nice and easy when u toss that cam in! Also, depending on mileage it is a great time to swap to some more worthy lifters!!!

so i can just swap the to and not change any thing else? was the gains just up top or for the entire rpm? i don't want to lose any down low. are all factory 243 heads the same or are they one's that perform better.

116 LSA
Cham 66.67 cc---0.100---0.200---0.300---0.400---0.500---0.550---0.600
Intake 200 cc ---67------122------178-----215-----219-----223-----227
Exhaust 70 cc ---52------97-------133-----156-----170-----176-----180
Cham 64.45 cc---0.100---0.200---0.300---0.400---0.500---0.550---0.600

Exhaust 75 cc ---57------108------143-----163-----176-----180-----183
Not only you have bigger runners you also have better numbers through out the whole range of intake/exhaust. Again the cam is not the biggest and your LSA is all for top end but over all you'll see a difference.

i agree with the prior post. why you have the heads off put a set of ls7 lifters in it and pushrods if you can swing them with the springs. its added assurance and when you do your cam swap later, it truely will be a cam only swap. new trays are only $12 i think id do that just for simplicity later also.

good info I wondered the same thing. I keep finding all these great deals on the 243 heads and got the wife to agree to 243 heads with a semi aggressive cam for our mods for the z28. That with full exhaust, fast 90, and a tune and I don't think I will do any more mods to it again aside from a stall and rear end. That's what? the 450-460 range right? Plenty for the wife.

Not really I got there with an E-85 conversion and I have just about everything you can put on on.
Before the E-85 I was at 412/356 respectively That was with a very aggressive cam with a 614 lift, 90/90 ported, 243 heads done by Advanced Induction, LS6 valves, 921 springs, vararam vr-b2, 36# injectors, American Racing headers 1 7/8 to 3" collector, 3X2.5 Xpipe, 3400 stall, rpm stage IV 4l60e, Z06 rear diff with hardened out put shaft and a hell of a tune. The E-85 allowed me to run a full 28* of timing and added about another 40 rwhp with the set up. I had to step up to 72# injectors and an A1000 fuel pump. So there is a lot that goes into pulling 450 rwhp through an A4. I am right now at 450/420.

i belive 450-460 may be shooting considerably high. cam selection will need to be more specific to be for sure but semi aggressive i dont think will get oyu numbers that high. i got a magna charged GTO in the gagrage with bolt ons putting down about 505 so i hope your not that close.
stall will make the car no matter the hp. its the best mod for an auto there is.

Ya my friends is an M6 but do the HP numbers really hurt that bad when they are on an Auto??? I know a stall will show a lower hp number as well, but it almost seems like the guy at the dealership that told me my z28 only got 240 rwhp and the ss got 340.... aka sounds like bullshit. but hey I may be wrong here, and I probably am but why would the A4 have that much drivetrain loss over the m6? Aside from a stall that is....

and correct youll see m6 guys all over this crappin board braggin 400 here 415 there and cuttin 12.8 12.9 or lower times with lids and exhaust.
m6 cars and dyno make bigger numbers than a4 cars and dynos.
put them on the street or track, m6 v.s. stalled a4. see what happens.

i run door to door with a buddy that has an m6 99 like mine and his car puts down roughly 30-45 more hp on the dyno, on the street it dead nuts.

i cant ever see it being a 100hp drop between them unless the auto is toasted. but a4 cars just flat suck the ***** on the dyno.

But that's another story...
