Default Cold Weather causing gauge issues

On my 99 Z28, when the weather just turned very cold (5-10F) the trip meter has started to reset itself and gas gauge goes past full all the way to the right. I looked over some old threads and they said low voltage for the trip meter reset but nothing ever mentioned about gauge going stupid.

Anyone else with a 99 having similar problems with the weather? I'm hoping it cures itself when temps go back up.

My 99 Z-28 does this if I leave it at the Airport and do not drive it for a week. Maybe the cold temps are adding additional strain on the battery. I agree it is weird, mine did it again, only after three days not not driving. I have a new battery and the alternator is charging. There is a TSB on a gauge replacement, but we would never get the repair completed now due to the age of our cars. My speedo and tach sweep over and reset sometimes when this happens, but the car starts fine. Again, usually after sitting for a few days, cold weather does seem to have this "Anomoly" occur more frequently.

I have a 1999 and live in the tropics. At times I have the same issue and its due to voltage going low. Check to see if your battery is holding charge fine. My cure has been keeping a battery tender on with periods of long time of not using the car. I doubt the cold climate is a factor. I think this problem is almost specific of 1999....

Same here on my 99 t/a. The fix, was a new battery.. Had the old battery tested, and it was a bit dead.

This is voltage related, and is '99 specific, as has been stated. The GM fix was to replace the cluster, but as long as your battery is fully charged you shouldn't have this issue in the first place.
