my lights flicker when i give the car gas
at idle when i give my car gas all my inside and outside lights flicker, but the voltage on the voltometer is reading good and not flickering itself, so i don't know what is happening. when i stop giving the car gas, the lights stay static. any clues? i have a lot of power in my stereo (1200+ watts for subs) and have had this setup with the stock alternator for about 6 years...i'm wondering if this is a sign that all the power has taken a toll on the stock alternator? thanks for the help.

The belt tensioner has a spring loaded arm that holds the tensioning pulley. There are raised lines on the tensioner body and on the tensioner arm (that holds the pulley) that you can use to gauge the stretch in your belt. (If the belt is stretched too much, your tensioner won't be able to get the proper tension in the belt and the whole thing will slip on the pulleys when you give the engine gas.) This doc explains more on how to use the gauge and has a good picture. http://www.kwikperf.com/pdf/alt_ps_bracket_inst.pdf Basically you should be between the max and min marks.
