LS6 Intake vs BBK
The time has come to purchase a new intake manifold. And please don't post the link to the LS6 vs BBK vs FAST thread, as I have already read through it. I am here looking for any OTHER experiences with the BBK. I know I can't go wrong with the LS6, and they're only like 350$ used. But the BBK is 400$ NEW. Also, any advice about a throttle body for each would be appreciated. Thanks, Allen

LS6 is about 300, more or less. I just bought one as I had a P&P 90/90 Fast and I needed to free up some cash.
IF you have someone with a Dremel your can port yours for essentially for free. JL-ws6 came over my house and did it in about one hour. He did not go too crazy, smoothed the horn, bevelled the edge of the TB and smoothed the back of the throttle blade bar.
The BBK should not even be considered as the weight penalty is enormous. Most stockish cars are not making 30+ psi of boost and need not worry about aluminum strength. The FAST would be an option IF down the road there would be more power. BUT all used Intakes (non ported and w/o TB) are going for 600-700. Add a 90 mm tb, add 250-300 more. OR find a stock 78mm (i think) FAST and its marginally cheaper.
The LS6 is the best over all deal. Look around, most people would sell 300 shipped. I just paid to have mine done for 7$ ground through UPS from CT to IL.

I bought my BBK SSi for $325 picked up, got a 85mm BBK tb for $300, 85MM gm maf for $50 so I have $675 into my setup. I love the look of my BBK. I almost sold it to get a fast but the board convinced me other wise.

i was in your spot a couple months ago and in the end chose the ls6 intake/p&p tb that's been dyno proven over the years, the bbk is too heavy, and i don't have any plans for nitrous. plus the money...i paid $300 for the ls6 intake and $80 for the p&p tb. bbk intake is $400 and a bbk 85 mm tb is $270

LOL unless your running a full on drag car I doubt the extra weight is gonna be much of a factor... I'm sure you've seen my posts on the BBK. I'm a fan of it, and support it. Although many others will talk **** on it, most of it is just jumping on the bandwagon with no personal experience...

that's what i usually hear about bbk intakes...how well they look. i guess that's where your money goes. try searching, you won't see many before/after dyno numbers with the bbk. there was one thread that claimed 5 more rwhp on the bbk than the ls6. for $300 more, no thanks

Your statement above is true, going from an LS6 manifold to BBK is a waist of money just for maybe 5hp, but going from an LS1 to a BBK is going to make a bit of difference, and some people preffer the aluminum look (like me). So if the BBK only makes 5 more hp the an LS6 then why buy an LS6 manifold for $300+ if for the same money you can get the BBK and make more power, 5hp is 5hp it still counts towards the final HP number, plus you get the appereance of the nice clean aluminum

There is nothing wrong with the BBK. Yes, it will make more power than a LS6 & I have seen proof with my own eyes of improvement at the track where it actually counts. I have not personally ran one but a good buddy of mine switch from a LS6 to a BBK & I was suprised with its performance honestly.
Fast is a good choice but its not for everyone. Its also a very expensive choice given the alternatives. Just depends on your personal goals & if you like the BBK, then get it.

The ONLY gain I have see, was a GMHTP Article, it was a C5 Vette with a Cam if I recall going from a LS1 to their set up. Which went for good $$$. That was a BBK.... I have not been researching anything about Typhoon. No one running a fast car runs them. It is either FAST or they moved up to a carb style intake, or single plane w/ Elbow
http://www.msperformanceonline.com/52065.html Shows 470$. Alot of Sponsers do not show a Typhoon listed anymore.... add a TB to that which is generally at least 300$. How is this cheaper then a Used LS6 (300) and a Ported TB (100). For that exta 300$ and increase in hp is going to be hindered by the weight. Thats NOT a good trade.
The only way I see this being comparible price wise was a brand new LS6 which Thunder Racing has going for like 600+ and that would make everything about equal money wise but that weight, sitting over the nose is not a help, no matter how much extra HP you make.
I said this for the BBK and I will say this again. If your getting it for CHEAP $$$, then by all means, buy it, but if your not. There are a TON of used LS6's out there. I am suprised they held their value this long.

Thanks for the input everyone. I absolutely love the look of the BBK, and dread that ugly black piece that seems to collect dirt. But more importantly of course I'm looking for the power bump, so I'm willing to sacrifice looks if that's what it takes. I've got an offer for an LS6 for 310$ + shipping right now....So another quick question: can a stock throttle body be used on the BBK (until I can bring myself to drop 300$ on a new one)? And also, how much would the stocker hold back power being bolted to an LS6?
