Anyone know what size fittings are used on older GM steering gearboxes
I want to adapt my LS1 hoses to my 2nd generation camaro gearbox....I figure the easiest thing is to have my LS1 hoses modified with the correct ends for my 76 camaro gearbox.
Anyone know the sae size???

i seem to remember 9/16 and 5/8, but i might be wrong, i'll have to see if i wrote it down-yours are prob still flared fittings, they switched to o ring later on-i think in the Chevelle i used #6 AN to whatever the threads were, but they can make up the hoses right to the fittings

I used these Russel Adapter on my power steering to convert to AN, but these are the thread size/part #.
-6 AN to 5/8" Flare Adpater = 640380 (High side steering box)
-6 AN to 11/16" Flare Adapter = 648050 (return side Steering box)
Hope this helps

Can you use these connectors on the stock 98-02 Camaro PS hose?

Thanks for the help to the both of you
I ended up figuring out (after a trip to lowes and autozone) that the fittings are 3/8" inverted flare.
I went by the parts store this morning and got a 3/8 nut and a flaring tool.....I'm going to attempt to flare my stock LS1 pressure line with the 3/8 nut so it will thread my 76 camaro gearbox.

Yes, That is what I would recommend you doing, to reflare the LS1 lines.. to the correct thread size on the steering box. (is 76 a metric box ?)
They might make a Flare to O-ring adapter, but by the time it sticks out that far, it would look pertty ugly.. if you don't reflare the line, then I would just go to the Flare to AN adapter and use AN fittings and the Russell Teflon line SS braided line that is rated for Power steering pressure.

I tired to used one to those cheapy flaring tools to flare this line yesterday and I guess the line was too hard.
I went ahead and bought one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Lot of money, but I have several other lines I need to flare on my car and it will pay for itself in the long run, heck I can make any end for any line I want now. I am going to re-do my main fuel line to accept a double flare end to attach me push connect line between that and the fuel rail.
Maybe when it's said and done I can make "custom" lines to adapt LS1 hoses to older GM gearboxes to recoup my investment in the tool.

Yup.. having the right took is always a great way to do the job right.
One other option that I recommend. You can by AN threaded bunt's, slide them on the tube and weld/braze them on.. very secure and cheap if your doing AN with any of the Braided hose. I did this to my fuel rail and did away with them QD and save myself some $$ there. You can also do this on any hard line.

65 Impala power steering hose solution
Got the power steering hoses figured out. Add another $100 to the bill.
Took the original hose to a local hydraulic shop. Guy cut the hose side off of the pump fitting then crimped a fitting to the 3/8" hose than added 51" of the hose to the AN6 female connector. I should have had him just use the correct fitting and not the adapter, but hindsight and a $12 fitting are now in use instead of being in the tool box for eternity.
As for the low pressure side, 3/8" 300psi hose with a barbed fitting on the power steering box side and the other side to the connector in the radiator hose.
