Ok,It's time to put another system into my car and I need your guys input. There are two scenarios. (1)Basically I'm going to use a stealth box with either an Elemental Designs 11kv2, 11Ov2,Alpine Type R,Type S or Image Dynamics ID, IDQ.What amp do you guys recommend for this setup? (2) Same setup as number one,but gut the factory monsoon crap and run new wires and use new speakers.What speakers and amp would be the choice for this setup? (3)BTW, are the two whimpy speaker in the hatch area really necessary?Thanks in advance.

1. I don't know much about those subs but find specs on them (power, space needed, etc.) and determine how much air space the stealth box gives for a sub then pair the best sub with it, then find an amp thats rated around what the sub may need.

2. Search around and review what people say about a set of components, there are a lot out there and personal experience is the best way to see how they perform, but check out Kee Audio they may have some. Again, find an amp that puts out the rated power for four speakers and 4 channel.

3. No, those really aren't necessary, more for fill.

I have 2 7kv.2's in my sail panels and they are Ok, would be better if enclosed. However I have a 9kv.2 in a 10" box in the trunk of my Civic I cut a hole in the rear deck and put the sub under it and i love the sound. ED are a Good choice if I was asked.

If you are running an Alpine sub I would stay with brand and use alpine speakers either Type R or Type S. What size of sub are you using? What ever size it is look up the specs on the power handling both RMS and Max that will help narrow down the size of the amplifier but I would use an Alpine amp too. Alpine is good stuff!

id go with the type r, the ID or an FI.

for amps all ive dealt with lately are hifonics cause theyre cheap, nice looking and i have yet to have any issues (vs alpine, kicker, etc)

An Fi wouldn't have enough air space in a stealth box, those need a lot of air and perform best ported. I'd stick with the Type R. And you don't need to stick with brands, sometimes it's better to have different combos, and brands like JL, Alpine, etc. are all overrated and overpriced.

Sorry, but that's incorrect. The 10" Fi SSI and Q only needs between .2-.6 cu.ft. of air space in a sealed enclosure according to the specs on the Fi website.

Look in to Acoustic Elegance. They make very nice drivers and at a very good price aswell. Either that or ID. And ED isn't the best but would probably suit you well.

Oh guess I should've researched that ha. The Fi site doesn't show most of the speakers info as they are upgrading and the only 10" i saw with info said n/a for sealed. Either way, just do the research and try to hear different setups.

I've decided to just replace the crappy Monsoon factory speakers with speakers from Kee Audio and add an amp and sub in a stealth enclosure. I'm going to use an Alpine Type R for the sub,friend of mine uses one and sounds pretty dang good.Looking at Hifonics for the amp,bunch of my buddies say there the best bang for the buck.

Hifonics isn't very good anymore and are by far NOT the best bang for buck.Best bang for buck:

MB Quart Discuss series (Made by same people as Hifonics but made with decent parts, do rated power, and are very affordable.)

Elemental Designs Nine.1 ($200 for 1200 RMS isn't bad, and the product itself is good for the price aswell.)

Audiopipe AQX series (I am by no means an Audiopipe fan, EXCEPT for the AQX series. GREAT for the price and perform better than rated. Same board as RD Audio. Great product and probably the cheapest of the 3 I just listed.)


I have had several Hifonics amps in the past few years, and I definitely was not impressed for the price. But not horrible...

The Mb Quarts look nice.The 500.1 does 500rms @ 1 ohm.Found it as cheap as $120.00

You can get an AQX15001D for $145, and will provide you plenty of room to grow. 1500 RMS. Its always better to have an amp rater higher than your sub. I would shoot for an amp about 750 RMS for just 1 Type R, because you will never actually see that power at the sub. It will be considerably less.

just remember ( ive personally done this!) you dont have to have a huge setup like 15's and 2000 watts to have a clean crisp and loud setup, as long as you have a decent sub see exactly what airspace it needs, whether it needs sealed or ported, what OHM it runs best, what Hertz it runns best at ( most 10's do great around 50 - 60 Hertz) then match it with an amp that is slightly more power than you need so that you can run your amp at about 60-75%. if you run your amp @ 100% it strains for quality. thats it! its all about the box matching the exact spec's for the sub! i actually used to have a 12inch sony explode in a cheap sealed build-a-box , 1000watt explode amp in a cavalier and actually hit 132.3 DB at a local comp, which goes to show you as long as the airspace is setup right you dont always need to go hard core. Ive currently got two 12's in a sealed box with a soundstream 1000watt amp in my camaro and hit 140.1 @ 50 Hertz....oh also to save on your amp, if your subs are rated at 1000 watt peak and 650 RMS then that means it will handle 650watts of continous play so make sure your amp is capable of easily running that much on a daily basis if thats what your setting it up for. any more ?'s just let me know.

I have co-worker that has a MB Quart DSC1500.1 (375W RMS x 1 Channels @ 4 ohm 750W RMS x 1 Channels @ 2 ohm 1500W RMS x 1 Channels @ 1 ohm) and a US AMPS XT2000DE XT (1,000w x 1 RMS @ 1 ohms 700w x 1 RMS @ 2 ohms 400w x 1 RMS @ 4 ohms XT) in excellent shape.He use to be heavy into the scene but has toned it down a lot.Anyways he's willing to sell me either one for $150.00,looks like either one would do the job.

sounds cool just find out what OHMs your sub runs best on so you dont pull to much load on your amp, and of course make sure that the sub is able to handle whatever wattage the amp is putting out at THAT OHM. $150 is a good deal, i laid down $415 for my Soundstream 1000D.
