Can you consider an FWD to be a muscle/performance car??
I got to thinking about the '94-'96 Impala SS and the 80's Monte Carlos and was wandering who would consider an FWD to be a muscle/performance car. e.g. The '04-'05 Impala SS with a 231 c.i. 240 horsepower V6, '06-present Impala SS with the 325 c.i. V8 303 horsepower, '06-'07 Monte Carlo SS with the Generation IV small-block 303 hp V8, Cobalt SS 260 hp. As well as the Malibu/Max SS. I think I got the years right.

i doubt many on this forum will consider FWD anything muscle, but alot of the younger crowd does. my opinion is, if they can hang with my car, i will give them props, i have alot of motor/displacement/money spent to make my car fast, and if some FWD/4 banger can keep up with me, then my hats off to them, but i wont call it muscle...so in short..nope

+1. I was considering the new Cobalt SS before I bought the Z06. I talked to a few of those guys and they were giving me very impressive information. Like how the new Cobalt is faster than a new STi or Evo, gets better MPG, and has great potential. But it has been criticized because of some of its design.

i think it depends on who you ask, because there is really no set definition for muscle car. ask my dad and probably anyone from his generation, and a muscle car is something loud, fast, throaty, and always gets the ladies

Muscle car no, performance car yes. I had a Lancia Beta wagon before. 4 cylinder Dual overhead cam dual points, performance header from the factory. IIRC it was a 7000 rpm red-line. FWD but a true sports car. SO yes performance but certainly not muscle.
The El Dorado was front wheel drive. Not really muscle as luxury but carried a big *** v8 as well as the Olds Toranado.
couple wik's.... In acceleration, the Dodge SRT-4 holds the world record for the quickest front wheel drive production vehicle. A turbocharged Citroen SM broke the land speed record for its class at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in 1987, going 202mph (325km/h), a record for a front wheel drive vehicle.

after that, i now want to get a 04-05 impala SS. i'd never consider it as a muscle car, but more of a proper daily driver. those supercharged 3800 motors can be modded to make for a quick car. its a decent spacious 4-door, but will disappoint for anyone looking for a muscle car... so no on muscle and with-mods on performance.
