Default steering column

I'm getting ready to do my swap, how do I know if my steering column is for an A4 or M6. Is there a way of telling them apart just by sight? Thanx.

The only differences between manual (MM6) and automatic (M30) are the ignition switch and the ignition lock cyclinder. You can't see the lock cylinder without taking it apart. You might be able to tell by the Delco number on the ignition switch. D1405B is used on manual transmissions, D1473C is for automatics.

Of course you could always swap those parts from your old column if they don't match.
