What will run my cable speedo?

What will run my cable speedo? I am just about to swap a LQ4/4L80E into a 74 Nova. I just realizes there is no place to hook up my speedo cable to the transmission. From what I have found I have a few options, 1) replace my speedo gauge with an aftermarket one, (autometer, dakota digital) or 2) replace the tail housing on the transmission. Both of which are over $500. I am trying to do this on a budget and don't want to spend that much on this part of the swap. What are my other options? What have some of you guys done for this? Any help would be great.

Replacing the tailhousing w/ a gear drive creates a new problem...how to feed vehicle speed data to the PCM. Not recommended.
Common options are either #1 as you stated, or adding an Abbott box:
