Default Borla vs SLP Loudmouth I

I have been shopping around for exhaust and I really like the look sound and setup of the borla catback system, but for hundreds of dollars less i could get the SLP Loudmouth I which sounds almost as good in my book. I can afford the Borla, but im really not sure what makes it so expensive besides the name. do you get more RWHP from the borla instead of the Loudmouth?

id just like to hear a good reason to spend damn near a grand on exhaust

thanks in advance

I personally think the SLP Loudmouth sounds better. But as for the cost? I believe most of the cost is paying for the Borla name, not to mention that Borla's pipes are 100% 304 Stainless steel, I believe SLP used 404 Stainless steel for the pipes, and 304 Stainless steel for the tips. 404 steel will last the life of the vehicle, but it will show surface rust, but that's all underneath your car? So who's going to see it? Borla is 304 through and through, so no surface rust ever. That's the main difference.

I have the borla adjustable catback on my car, it looks great and sounds nice with the block off plate but I run the plate that lets 3/4 of the exhaust bypass the muffler. I'll probably install an electric cutout down the road. Both systems should flow the same amount since the mufflers are straight through so it's really just the option of the built in cutout on the borla system that's differenct along with what WhiteKnight posted.

It's basically name and a built in cut out basically. I have the loudmouth and I have no complaints.

Thanks for your service.

I have the LM1 on my car and it sounded really good with the stock manifolds and y pipe...but I just put long tube headers and an off road y pipe on my car and it now sounds obnoxiously loud (in a bad way) and raspy as hell...I overnighted a borla xr1 #40085 to me so I can get it welded on for the "borlamouth". Theres no muffler in the LM1 system, which I didnt realize until I got under my car for the header install...so I am not really surprised about the exhaust note.

Something to think about if you plan on doing headers...you might decide to weld in a bullet style muffler in place of the resonator if you dont like the exhaust note.

Agreed the loudmouth is crazy raspy with long tubes. Sounds like a bunch of nails jiggled around in a coffee can.

Save you money and get the borla or the slp powerflo. LM exhaust are cheap for a reason, they sound like ****.

I just put a borla adjustable catback on my stock 98 and love it, great fit, I personally love the tips and has a nice low tone. I think the biggest difference is the stainless steel as discused above and the block off plates, comes with 4 options the fully closed, 1/4, 3/4, and wide open block off plates so you have a choice of how loud you want it. You can also get a electric cutout in place of the borla block off plates and control the sound and performance from inside the car. Don't have and experience with the LM1 but I really enjoy the borla.

LM1 is one of the best sounding set-ups with manifolds. Add headers and ory and it goes to hell, unless you drive it full throttle all the time. I switched to the Hooker cat back but only drive the car when it's nice out so I'm not worried about it not being stainless.

LM1 sucks RASPY *** IMO after mods. Best sounding CB out there on manis though IMO.

My Hooker CB turn heads with H/C/I on my car. They are one of the best flowing CB's too... Just count on buying tips because they are the cheapest POS on any CB I have seen.....

Oh and Borla is LOUD with mods but sounds much better than a LM with mods.
