WS6 air box vs. LS1 lid?
I know this was brought up before but I'm looking to see if anyone has any proof as to whether it's a worth while mod or a waste. I'm concerned that with my LE2 setup and the 150 shot that the motor is being starved for air due to the passages in the hood. Has anyone done a dyno pull with their stock WS6 air box/assembly with the hood closed vs. a LS1 lid setup?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

If you have the WS6 or another nostril hood with the airbox behind it you already have the best air intake setup for the LT1. The only ones that really benefit from the LS1 lid conversion would be a Camaro.

I have a WS6 airbox with K&N filter for sale if you need one.
I think the WS6 LT1 is better than a lid, the LT1 style is similar to a LS lid flipped upside down if you think about it. The LS setup has to get air from a small opening in the front of the box, The LT1 setup gets it from the hole filter. If you decide to go Lt1 Ws6 setup make sure you seal it to the hood with foam to get the full benefit.
The passages in the hood are not a restriction, Ed Wright went 9.90 all motor with a stock WS6 setup, I went 10.50's.

BUT I didnt drive my car in the rain unless I got caught in the rain. I made some little block offs for the hood for if it was REALLY pouring.

OP, I was wondering the same about 6 months ago. I ended up cutting the baffles out of my hood to get a straight shot of air. Now, when I look through the nostrils I can physically see that the factory ram air box is completely sealed to the hood all the way around, can't get much better than that.

I have the 98 Z28 lower air box (lower radiator brace) with the air filter cage for sale in parts classifieds. If I end up keeping my new build Im going to a belly pan under my carb and duct it to my WS6 hood. Im sorry to make this a thread hijack but Im selling it dirt cheap. $40 plus shipping.

Thanks for info everyone.
I'm sure the rain plates could be removed but I just can't grasp the idea of hacking up my hood since I still have every bolt/ part I've taken off my car.
Stealth- did you notice an improvement in times at the track since you cut the baffles out?

Have you done it or seen pics? That would be interesting to see. The car doesnt get daily driven and it will never be completely stock again so as long as it looks clean i dont mind cutting a little.

After cutting baffles: 11.62 at 116mph (+1300 DA) ~11.50 at 117 corrected to 0 DA.
I previously had my TB opening maybe 95% so I fixed that at the same time of cutting out the baffles. With that said I can't attribute all the gains to the hood but I am confident that it definitely helped.
I have all my stock stuff too, I just can't part with any of it. It was hard to convince myself to do it but the baffles just appeared to be such a restriction so I went for it. I don't regret my decision but I would definitely think about it for a while until you come up with a solid decision.

The only way a LS1 lid is better than a LT1ws6 set up is if you use a Chris Ram Air or like system which requires you to cut the rad support.
I have tested with and without the filter many times and Ive gained about 1mph some days but lost as much as 10mph on crazy hot days such as the LTXshootout lasat year, some days it makes no difference at all. Something you just need to try when you get to the track then decide what to do for the rest of the day.
