04 GTO alternator or volt signal

I´m a little confused on the way to get the volt signal for the 04 gto engine/alternator to feed my gauge (autometer gauge (volt)), what do you suggest? (LS1/A4 on a 73 camaro)

I'd probably go from the battery. If you had a dead battery the voltage at the alternator would probably be the same as long as the rpms are the same.
