Default I Just Rebuilt My T56

Guys,I just rebuilt my T56,because the needle bearing on Reverse Gear fell apart.

I have had slight noise coming from my shifter in 5th and 6th gear for a while and I was driving home one night and it popped and jumped and then started growling,I got the trans out and tore down.I had to replace Reverse Gear,Needle Bearing,Reverse Syncronizer Hub,Shift Fork Pads, and The Mainshaft. While I had it apart I replaced the blocker rings, snap rings, and seals.Everything else looked fine.

The trans is back in and I have put 200+ miles on it and it is doing great.

I have rebuilt a few 4L60's,a TH350,an AOD,and a A518 (46RH) automatics, but this is my first Manual transmission.I would say that a T56 is much easier to rebuild than an automatic.I think a mildly skilled person can get the job done.Just take your time and get the right tools. The only special tool that I needed was a press to remove and install the bearing on the input shaft.

I agree it is very rewarding to do it yourself and you can save a lot of money. Now if anything else breaks I know I can fix it and I also have a greater understanding of how the transmission works.
