Default removing double sided taped residue.

completely de-badged my car and took off the rubber door ding strips and not all of the adhesive came off, just wondering what the best way to get all that off without harming the paint. thanks.

I just de-badged my AVy this weekend and had the same issues. I used REM OIL (its basically like wd40 but i didnt have wd40 on hand) to take all the foamy parts off, just spray it and use a credit card or something similar to gently scrap it away. this should leave just the sticky residue which is a pain in the *** as well. for this i used a all purpose lacquer thinner and gently rubbed the area until it started to come off, rinse and repeat several times because you dont want the thinner to set on the paint to long.

The most simple and the least harmful way is to use a roll off wheel, its a soft rubber wheel that "rolls off" the glue and foam backing. It takes about fifteen minutes to do both sides and won't harm the paint at all. You can get them from Norton abrasives, part number 63642505624

Use the eraser wheel "roll off". 3M makes it as well. A Goo Gone or something similar to soak it in won't hurt either. Quickest and easiest is the wheel.

Do not use laquer thinner or goof off. Both of these will take paint off. Use the wheel or 3m makes an adhesive remover. Also just imho find out ppls skill level and training before taking advise. Some of these guys ideas will screw your paint for good.

Tewlver12 had it right. Just use the rub off wheel. Dont soak it in anything. Its designed to be used by itself.

Ok, take my skill level into account. I have been restoring cars for 7 years now, and I know how to take adhesive off. Take a look at my car and you can see my work. I don't have to prove myself to some tool with 19 posts. Anyways OP, I can say the adhesive remover is just as dangerous as thinner. Sorry buddy, but goo gone will not take off paint. That is very incorrect info. Matter of fact, I just did my truck like a month ago, and it sure doesn't look like my paint is gone! The advantage to soaking the tape in goo gone is to reduce the amount of **** to clean up after the fact. It keeps it balled up into one area so that you can simply wipe it off.

Try using a hair dryer or heat gun to GENTLY warm the area first, it comes off a lot easier that way.

I use GOO GONE and it has always worked wonders for me, just spray it and can normally just rub it off with your thumb and then a rag to get any final residue off.

I also just did my 04 silverado a few months back and used GOO GONE and theres absolutely no difference in the paint and just did my car 2 weeks ago took off some stupid badges the original owner had on it for years, peeled off the badges and the tape stayed and a nice yellow film along the outside edges, sprayed and soaked in goo gone, tape rubbed right off with my thumb, then sprayed some ICE spray detailer on the yellow film outline wiped it off with a rag and it took what was left of the film right off, can't notice any difference in color on arctic white.
