Default TSP 233/239 cam - Anyone have it?

Ive been doing some research into a cam for my C5. I have a 01' with LG streets and a CAI. I think the TSP 233/239 will give me what I want. A nice choppy idle, more power, and not too much of a hit down low. Id like to hear some impressions from those who run this cam in the C5.

Thanks

Can't comment on the vette but I had one in a '99 T/A M6 I used to own. It ran very well up top and decent in the midrange. My only complaint was trying to get it to stop bucking at light throttle/low speed and getting it to stop dying when turning with the A/C on and the clutch pushed down. Of course I'm sure both of those issues can be greatly improved/eliminated by a better tuner. I played with it on my own w/ HP Tuners just couldn't ever get it just right. Oh and I made 427RWHP/380RWTQ with that cam, LTs, ORY, magnaflow, UD Pulley, and a Fast 90/90 setup. It's a good decently sized cam for an off-the-shelf selection. You could also pay for a custom spec cam (only adds about $25) and it would be optimized for your particular setup.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm probably going to install a 2 piece timing cover in case the cam is more than I expected.

I run the cam in my 01 camaro. Its a very nice cam for midrange and top end it just screams. Mine is a 113 LSA and has a real nice lope to it. Since your installing this cam in a lighter car it should be great for you.

I was thinking of going with a 112 LSA which would bump the power up in the RPM's a bit, how do you like the 113? I dont want a car that just has top end power, I want it in the middle as well.

power really starts in at about 3500-4000. You wont notice any difference most likely. i actually ordered the 112 but when I received the cam it was a 113. I call TSp and they said there is so little of a difference you not going to be able to tell. I am very happy with the cam. The only mod I really need to do that I haven't done just yet are gears. I'm still running 3.42's and will be getting 4.11's which would put me in the power band alot quicker.

I run this cam. with my true duals the sound is second to none, and it runs HARD above 3k rpms. if youve ever ridden a two stroke dirt bike, the power band hits like that. throw in some nitrous and it get rediculous.

I wouldnt drive the car with anything else. it cant be driven well on the street without at least a 4.10. there isnt enough low end torque to get around. gotta have a low gear for it. just ran it at the track last night actually. shift light comes on as i cross the finish line. works nicely. at 70 it turns roughly 1700-1900 ish.

Friend of mine runs this cam, made 360/360 cam only on a Mustang dyno through the LS1 intake, untouched heads. Guy says his dyno typically reads 8-10% off what a dynojet would, so thats nearly 400/400 on the stock 98 heads and intake! good cam, friend just says he needs more gear, still on stock 3.42s

You guys have autos or 6 speeds? My C5 has the 6 speed and 3.42's, I hoping that is just about right for my car. From what I hear, put 4.10's in it and its almost unmanageable.

I run this cam as well. It takes a good tuner to get low speed bucking out of it. Seemed pretty finicky but once its dialed they make great power.

Mines in a 6spd. T/A and I changed to a 3.90 gear because it was kind of sluggish from a dead stop. Gears made a huge diiference.

You might get by without gears since your lighter, but this cam really shines with a set of lower gears.

IMO the bucking cannot be removed by tuning, although you can remove the tendancy of the car to die. mine used to die with ac on or coming to a light. that was tuned out of it. the gears will make the biggest difference after the swap. 6 speed makes a cam like this more managable on the street.

yeah my car has no issues with dying. every once is awhile for some reason it will want to die when car is cold and ac is on. the surging at low rpms is almost gone in mine. i can cruise at low rpms with no issues. my has a great tune on it also!!

Having a 112 LSA versus a 113 would actually lower your powerband a little bit.

The higher the LSA= the higher your powerband
The lower the LSA= the lower your powerband

It's not a lot (maybe like 100 rpms)

man i though u had to cut valve releases to run a cam like that....

i have a 224/228 and i love it... good power all around...stock gears and all

still has a lumpy *** idle and i have to feather the gas for 2-3 min on intial startup after that she never stalls...so too me its a good street cam cus i do commute with the car sometimes
