Drag radial vs slicks

Drag radial vs slicks
Which would technically be safer on parts? Theoretically slicks wrinkle when launhing... so wouldn't this coushin the launch and not put as much stress on your rear as a radial tire wood since that does not wrinkle? I've always wondered this

Drag radials "crinkle" to, they both have soft side walls resulting in similiar launches. A true slick is a softer compound (generally speaking) so you'll get more traction and will end up with a better hole shot. I'd say full slicks are more demanding of the 10 bolt and would likely lead to something granading sooner but there are far to many other variables to really determine anything more specific than some educated guesses.

you are right. drag radials are alot harder on parts. the sidewalls of a radial are alot less forgiving than a slick, even a stiff sidewall slick. even chassis shops will add bars to the rear of a car to make it more solid if it is going to be a fast radial tire car. RTCTTFMF!!!

Well I don't care about handling, this would be on separate wheels I would use at the track. That's why I always wondered, if I could get a 1.5 60ft with full on slicks, compared to a 1.7 60ft with drag radials, and the slick is the same if not more forgiving then the radial, wouldn't I want to pickup a slick instead?

wheel hop is what breaks parts
and you can get that with slicks or dr's
given your gearing I would say you should
see definate gains running with slicks
as far as handling I also meant on the track
with slicks I felt the car felt a little squirrelly
up top going down the strip and for me I
did not mind giving up a couple of tenths to
make sure I did not end up kissing the wall or something.
