Type/ brand of motor oil used
Hey guys what brand/ type of motor oil are you using in your LS4's?? I recently changed the oil in my Monte and put in Valvoline 5w-30 and it suprised me that the "cold start chatter" from the lifters stopped. I have no idea what oil was in it before but it obviously was junk. Thanks

I've run:
Royal Purple 5w30 - No complaints, no noise, etc
Mobil 1 5w30 - Noisy on startup, worse when cold. More noisy all around
Mobil 1 0w40 European formula - 90% as bad as the 5w30
Castrol Edge 5w30 - Ok. Not NEARLY as loud as the mobil, but not as quiet as the RP either...
Castrol 0w30 - Seems to be as quiet as the RP, and the engine is just as smooth, and a LOT cheaper.. I'm using this currently.
I've used the Rotella 0w40 in my old LS1 cars, and had the best luck with it. Once I get some more miles on the GXP, I'll probably eventually switch to the Rotella. For right now, the 0w30 Castrol Syntec seems to work best for me...

I ran Penzoil Platnium and within about 1,500 miles it had already broken down and the valvetrain noise was terrible and swapped it out for Mobil 1. I always use either Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

Why do I feel like we talk about the same stuff over and over again lol Its either about: what type of oil, what type of tuner, or what kinda mods can I do.
***Not to be a dick***
But I use Castrol Blend 5w-30

Typically I run Pennzoil Platinum with a Purolator Pure One filter (kinda looks like a Twinkie). But I got into Advance on the last day of a sale just yesterday. It was 5 quarts of Castrol Edge and a K and N filter for $30. After adding the sixth quart and tax it all came to $42.
Valvoline is not bad either. Mobil 1 is a good oil, just not for my particular engine. Too much valvetrain noise at all times.
