Default Cams that won't require flycutting...

Looking for some input on larger sized cams, maybe a little less aggressive than the T-rex stuff, that will work with Dart 225's without requiring me to flycut the pistons. I don't mind the car being aggressive since it's not my daily driver, but I don't want it to be undrivable on the street either. Throw out whatever input ya got. Oh and I'd probably be leaning towards a nitrous ready cam as well, but also considering keeping in mind a possible supercharger so throw out whatever suggestions for whatever application.

If you you are looking for NA, then the best cams I have seen that are out there without going MS3/4, vindicator, or TRex are the the 231/237ish cams for maximum power and drivabilty. They make awesome power(especially with Dart 225s), but you want something that will be more blower friendly later on then I would say 228/228. Both can be had without flycutting, that is just me though. There are people on here that are alot more knowledgeable with cams than I am though.

I have heard this cam referred to as a T-rex killer.

You should have better PtV clearance with aftermarket castings.

Just remember, even if a vendor says "sure it'll fit" you need to check. Fit and safe are two different things. Another point to remember is that as the piston to valve clearance tightens, it becomes even more critical to control the valve movements because even a little bit of valve float could lead to damaged pistons or valves.

Be careful witht he Trex. I had one in my car and when I had my heads off, I could see little marks on the pistons where the valves were hitting. I see a lot of people that run them without any problems though.

I did too with an MS3 on a 114 grind. That was with PRC 2.5 5.3s that had the valves recessed so it would clear. Never bent a valve though, lucky...

Even a 224/224 cam can tap the pistons if you don't control the valves properly. I had weak springs with stock pushrods which ended up causing valve float and I had witness marks on all of my pistons from the intake valve touching.

+1 on a FMS cam- use smaller lobes make more power. Just a better profile in my opinion. Call Alan and tell him what you want he will set you up right. Also the cam will be on a billet core.
