Default Need a bit of assistance - trying to troubleshoot the AIR system.

I just picked up my '02 Z28 with 18k miles on her and after a few days I got the engine light and a code for P0410.

I searched all I could for a solution and found mostly suggestions to rip it out. Ripping it out is an option in the future but i'd really just like to fix it to get the engine light to go out. The nearest tuner to me is in Richmond, VA... I live near Charlottesville.

Any who... I followed some troubleshooting guides and the AIR pump itself is working just fine. Blows a lot of air when I separate the hoses on the driver's side of the car.

I dug further and i'm not getting airflow through AIR shutoff valve - the round saucer shaped bit that all the hoses connect to. I can't say it's the two check valves because air isn't getting to them.

What possibly is the issue here? Maybe the AIR vacuum solenoid?

Have to ask. Why not rip it out? Cleans up the engine bay some, less weight, and no mor air pump sound!!

I want to but then I have to get it programmed out and the closest place to do that is about 1.5 hours away. It'd probably be cheaper for me to fix it.

Hmmmm, I have a similar problem with a 1999. But the pump is a bit different and I don't feel any air coming out of where the hose plugs into the "pump". I don't know if that is part of the pump it self or a solenoid either. Any help for me would be appreciated too.

You can get the code removed with a mail order tune.

True. If I don't fix it by next weekend i'll just drive down to Frost and get it taken care of and then delete the system.

If I do delete the AIR... will the pcm tuning ensure that a READY code is present for the SAI system?

How'd you end up fixing it?

Well after the engine light came on, I had it scanned. P0410 was the code so I looked on here to see how the AIR system worked and I went through each part of it to verifiy if it worked or not.

I noticed the air pump was blowing great but the airflow stopped at the diverter valve. I figured it wasn't getting vaccuum from the solenoid to allow the valve to open so I fiddled with the solenoid and was able to get a vaccuum. Unplugging the harness from it and plugging it back in seemed to do it. Could have been some corrosion or dirt or something.

I took off the check valves that go to the manifolds and sprayed them down with some carb cleaner and hooked everything back up but without bolting the pipes back to the manifolds so I could verify air was flowing. I started the car when the engine was cold so the AIR system could work and I checked for air coming out of each pipe. After that I bolted the pipes back and I reset the computer by unplugging the battery for about a half hour (not sure how long it takes really but it couldn't hurt) and this morning no more engine light.

Nice. Just to clarrify, you felt a good amount of positive pressure from the pump? The solenoid was @ the "Y" in the engine bay? I assume I would definately feel pressure at the air pump then right?

BTW, to clear the codes just remove the ECM/PCM fuse for 7 minutes with the ignition on/ car NOT runnung.

Yes there was plenty of pressure from the air pump. I verified vaccuum by pulling the vaccuum line off the top of the diverter valve and it was showing strong vaccuum. I'm not convinced that the system will be working perfectly long term but by then I hope to have it tuned out of the PCM. For now I just need it working until I can get the time to drive over to Frost's shop.

Oh and thanks for the tip on clearing codes. Beats having to undo the battery.
