Default O2 sensor/Wideband question

So I am new to tuning and have a question about widebands and O2's. Why is it that one needs a wideband sensor to determine the air/fuel ratio when the O2 sensors provide the same information? I would think that tuning software would be able to read the voltage outputs from these sensors and determine and afr.

Two types of sensors, narrow band (your existing o2 sensor's) then the wide band o2 sensor (the one you are going to need).
