Default LOL! I almost forgot about my fuel tank! It has to come out!

After everything I'm having done to my hawk I almost forgot about yanking the fuel tank. Why? Because for the past 12 years my hawk has been sitting on the side of the house with a full tank of gas, or what's left of it.

The tank has to come out. There's no way around it. I was going to just get a new tank and just replace the pump with a 255 Walbro. BUT, since I was going to get those fuel lines from Speedinc. and ignore the evap canister, is there an aftermarket fuel cell for our fbody's?

The whole front end of the car is out already and it's already up on jackstands so it's wouldn't be a big deal to drop the rear and then the tank after I've drained it.

So gimme some ideas. Clean the tank? Get a new one? Get an aftermarket one? Go.

I don't see why you couldn't pull it out and clean it....

It's gonna be a tank full of varnish in there, no? What do I use to clean it?

The simplest way would be to take it to a shop equipped with a hot-tank and it will come right off. Radiator places will usually have the tank equipment to do it.

It could be worse than just varnish. When I opened my 1994 tank a few years ago, the coating on the inside of the tank was bubbling off and rust formed where the coating was missing. Ended up just replacing it with an OEM. Some recommend going to the plastic tank that came in later years.

or if you've got the $$$ to burn... http://www.nastyperformance.com/93-97F-Body.html

+1for the radiator shop. They were going to do one for an old rustang I had. Ended up the new tank they quoted me was about 25 bucks more so I did that.

I figured there would be a plastic tank by now. As for your link I'm gonna have to learn the fuel system components. Those systems look pretty overkill for a 400 rwhp engine.

yes, overkill and too pricey was my opinion as well. That's why I decided to go with the OEM replacement. Do some searches and you can find info on the plastic tanks. If I remember correctly, something was slightly different so it wasn't a direct swap. I needed it done asap and went with a like for like job. If/when this one rusts, I'll do something different.
