My Exhaust cut out experience... w/ times
Well, i see a ton of posts asking if cutouts really work and all that garbage and where to place it for best results.
I bought my 3 inch cutout and installed it at the front of the I-pipe just after the Y pipe. Its a manual cutout, and after shipping cost about 42$.
Now, some of you people who dont like getting on the ground to take a cap off, you may not like a manual one obviously. But the more you do it the easier it gets. Sometimes i use pliers, sometimes i dont. I havent lost a bolt yet.
I have a flowmaster cat back exhaust, which is known to be the worst flowing of all cat backs. Personally though i love the sound of it. I only take the cutout off at the track, because i ONLY race at the track. The car sounds like *******.
DA - 1429ft
Run 1 - Cutout closed
60' - 1.990
1/8 8.968 @ 78.04mph
1/4 14.009 @ 97.22
Run 2 - Cutout open
60' - 2.019
1/8 8.893 @ 79.12 mph
1/4 13.846 @ 99.26 mph
So in the end 2 MPH and 2 Tenths
Corrected times would be 13.644 , ill take it heh.
This is a 126k mile stock opti Lt1 car, 3500 stall and cutout + tons of leaks. I dont count my intake because all it does is suck hot air. Dont know if i should count the 315 nitto 555r drags either since im still cutting 1.9-20 60's, things are prolly just weighing me down

honestly, its great when its the difference between a 14 second run a 13 second run haha.
Not sure if this comparison is worth much, but another one i have time slips on is the Throttle body bypass
Befor T/B bypass
60' - 2.008
1/8 8.907 @ 78.60 mph
1/4 13.914 @ 97.88 mph
After T/B Bypass
60' - 2.019
1/8 8.893 @ 79.12 mph
1/4 13.846 @ 99.26 mph
Dont know what to blame the 6 Hundreths on, the t/b bypass or the 600ft difference in DA. But, thats my experience. Track was packed, im sure sitting in the staging lanes with the fans on wasnt quiet enough.

I have the same tires on my car and i'm cutting the same 60's as well i dont think i'll buy them again once they are toast.
my best time was a 13.397 @ 106.99 w/ a 2.074 60' the temp that night was about 60-65*

Google "dragtimes DA calc" and then enter in your track information and get the data and then enter that into the rest of the fields. Its just something to make you feel a little better is all.
Yea, these nittos hooked awesome the first 2 times to the track. Im deffinetly not buying them again. MT ET street radials are next lol, im betting the 275 et streets hook better then these 315 nitto 555r's.

i think we should make a sticky with comparison times. you can only post if you have a real time slip to go by. Just a good "befor and after" thread stating what all people are gaining and from what. But only Factual. none of the "youll pick up 4-7 tenths" crap.

I ran open cutout all summer and when I put the cap back on it felt a lot more torqey (from the back pressure I assume). I couldn't spin my 315 nittos with the cap off but when I put it on they'll spin a little bit. I think the major cutout gain is up top, obviously. I'd also like to do a track comparison sometime.

^ Man i love this place.
And you would also need 3 potatos....2 for the car, 1 for the ***.
My experience as far as backpressure goes.... a setup like his...long tube headers with a cutout, way to little back pressure and it probably sounded like a 1987 ford truck with straight pipes.
You want to find the happy amount. Im running stock manifolds and stock Y pipe, so the cutout is less restrictive, but not as free flowing as long tubes with a cutout (obviously)
And i suppose the dyno archive is supposed to have track times, but alot of them dont. and its hard to search through lol
