winter rebuild!
Well i finally got around to tearing my motor out this weekend. It has 101,000 miles on it and was starting to smoke out the exhaust on decel, so i assumed valve stem seals. Upon further tear down i found this(luckily the piston was still all together in the motor, and fell apart as i was taking the rings off, no scoring in the cyl. wall.)
does anyone think this was nitrous related, this was the back piston on the drivers side( cyl. #7)
other then that everything else looked ok so now i just need to add pistons to the "to buy list" lol
winter plans are:
a mild port/polish on my 241 heads possibly a small mill
new cam, main, and rod bearings
new pistons and rings
MS3 cam package from TSP
LS6 oil pump and LS2 timing set
Arp main and head studs
other misc. bolts and gaskets

do u live in or near CT? i was goin for a ride with my dad in his purple challenger srt-8 maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago and we pulled up behind a black z28 near the merrit pkwy and it made a right and went under the pkwy heading north and a few seconds later i guess it let off the gas and we saw all this black smoke coming out of the tailpipes.... was that you?

Not sure when they started coating them but it was the later models. It was supposed to help with piston slap noise.
As far as no2 related I am not sure. When mine came apart I had a #7 broken ringland like you and part of the piston face was missing. My rings were intact though and the bore looked good. Mine never saw nitrous but was a 11.2-1 H/C/I motor.....
Glad you pulled it when you did.... Seems like 9 out of 10 times it is #7....
