Default Schumanns Sale LSX oil pumps

After a trip to Indy a few weeks ago at the IMIS show in search of a answer to LSX oiling issues I talked with Robin Larwance of Holley. I have known Robin for years and explained what I was looking for. He sent me over to Vern Schumann's booth. I spent about 40 min with Vern and Tim of the Car Shop Inc.

After talking with a few other vendors and engine builders. I was told that a $2000 dry sump was needed for a 7000 rpm drag/street motor.

I asked Vern and Tim that same question and got a totaly different answer. They showed me the pumps they have been working on. 12 things they are doing to the pumps.

bypass valve is a check ball
external bypass rather than internal
o-ring on the block connection
porting the inlet
replacing the o-ring on the pick up with a two bolt flange
replacing the pick up inlet screen with a 88% flow
There were also internal things they are doing with the rotors and housing.
Also the big thing is they have a kit to alighn the pump to the crank. .015 of slop in the bolts only .003 in the pump. see a issue here.

I just recived the pump today

This is all the parts I recived with the pump.

When I installed the prior pump I asked the manufacture about the pump alighnment and was told it was not critical, Had issued with the oil pressure going over 100psi was told that was not a concern, the seal the block was told that also was not a issue. After talking with Vern and Tim they explained why all these things were critical.

Give Tim a call for more info about the Schumann pumps.

Tim

None of these modifications will help if the oil cannot get to the pick-up. That is the "crux" of the problem.

BTW, O-rings are a far superior way of sealing than gaskets. If I never see another gasket in my life I will be very happy.

Take the cover off one of these pumps and slide the pick up in the pump and look what the porting you did to the pump does with a stock pick up and o ring set up.

The pan is a issue also. I have the moroso $600 pan. No lifter trays, restricted push rods. The screen on all the pickups you buy is a joke no wonder people have issues.

areation of the oil in the pump with the intenal bypass is a issue also.

we've ran the melling oil pump to 8500 with no issues.

i've looked at the Schumann pump, i really don't see how what he does can make a substantial difference. The last thing is if your going to run a screen with 1/4'' holes, why run one at all?

Appears to be top-notch work! What are the two rows of 1/8" holes for?
