Default LS1 Omega project, engine/headers/chassis

Hi, seriously concidering swapping a v8 into my uk omega (Catera in the u.s.). However some research shows it to be a very tight fit between the rear cylinders and chassis. Sourcing a pair of exhaust manifolds/headers is going to be dificult although it has been done. I think a guy called Elvin made it work?

The GM ones made for the scrapped Official v8 omega show the rear primarys have an almost restrictive flat pressed onto the rear cylinder exhaust where it exits the heads to give clearance from the chassis.

Just wondered if any body has any here has any info or sugestions?

Thanks

Chris.

A chassis can be cut and rerouted just like header tubes. Just depends on what is behind it.

Don't know much about that car, so consider this a free bump TTT

I think mine has 2000 Corvette cast headers, they miss the steering box - just !!
Because the Omega has a steering box and the Commodore a rack it doesn't leave you much room to play with between the roll bar and steering cross link.

Wow, have you done this conversion then? Do you have a link to a relevant thread on here or any pics/info? Good news if stock headers of some sort fit. I had visions of having to get some made...?

I could do with some re assurance it's going to be reasonably straightforward before going to the trouble and expense.

Sourcing a donor engine is difficult in the uk, their are non available.

But apart from that I can't see a problem getting started.

Thanks guys. Very helpful info.

I think the Rats omega had a cut chassis and a steering rack to get round similar problems.

The steering box pictured in the link is very close. I can see why GM pulled the plug.
