Lake Pipes?

Lake Pipes?
Has anyone put some on a 4th gen bird or camaro? What are people's opinions on lake pipes? Are they hated like neon? Thanks in advance

Maybe I'm confused
I always thought "lake pipes" referred to an exhaust cut out/bypass valve.
The earliest examples had simple removable caps and the early salt flat racers would remove the caps after they got to the salt flats; thus the name "lake pipes".
As exhaust cut outs seem to be a real popular thing with these cars I don't think they have the same "ick" factor that neon lights bring.
Am I wrong?
Are "lake pipes" a far different critter than I imagine?
Maybe the OP was thinking of "side pipes" instead of "lake pipes".

I mean something like this where the exhaust would come out of the sideskirting. I may have used the wrong terminology in my original post.

I think those look great as an exit for a cut out.
Not sure I would run the normal exhaust out there.
After a bit of searching it seems that "lake pipes" are commonly thought of as complete secondary exhaust pipes from the collectors back.
They usually run in the side pipe position and have 1/2/3 turn outs with caps boltes to the exits. There was no cut off valve. When the caps were removed the exhaust would exit both through the original exhaust system and the lake pipes.
I agree with Z28/2002. Those would look a bit silly on a modern car. Any modern car! More suited to the 50's "Kustom" crowd IMO.
Lake pipes are not side pipes however, better to consider them secondary pipes-regardless to how the're routed. It also appears there are far more "fake lake pipes" than real ones. Just applied for appearance sake; no exhaust running through them. Somewhat disturbing IMO.
Z28/2002 did you click on his link? His exits looks pretty good IMO.

I've seen a few pics of side exit on 4th gens. I haven't seen any 4th gens with a full rocker length exhaust, don't think it could be done(or look right). I'm currently looking for a c3, which will have them. I think they look great on the c3 models.

the roush cars don't look bad with that setup, there is one car in the appearance section that looks good with side exit exhaust

Actually I guy here had his LT1 road race car set up with side exhausts. It was like 3 very flat rectangular tips close together and look surprisingly good. It was basically a 1.5 inch tall tip but maybe a foot long. That car was LOUD though.

Now I saw a Camaro with side pipes on the 2008 Power Tour that looked horrible. The road race car belonged to AndyJ but I think he sold the car and none of the pictures come up now.
