i searched and couldnt find much i guess i didnt go back far enought, anyways i need to know if i can install the arp head studs in the car. about to put the heads back on and want to know if i have to thread them in once the heads are on.

you need to have the back studs sitting in the heads when putting the heads on the block.use some tape or rubber hose to hood the stud up in the head.once the head is on the block you can screw in the studs.

i did it in my car with the motor in the car and I put all 15 in on each side and the heads went on no problem....just need to be careful when putting them on you dont score the face of the head or a valve...a second set of hands really helps with this.

It can be done. It's a little tight on the driver's side getting the heads on with the studs in the car. I put the head on the dowels and then put the studs in the block and put the nuts on. Just make sure you get the stud seated all the way in the block.

if u have the a pre 04 block why are the shorter ones only in the end, of the middle row of bolt holes?

when you are putting your new head bolts/studs on do you put locktite on the ends? my GM bolts have a little red part at the end of each of them, does that mean that they are ready to bolt right in?

old thread i know , but can i put the heads on and then put all the studs down through the bolt holes? or do i have to put the studs in the heads , tape them so they stay up and then put the head down ?

Not sure what you mean by taping them so they stay up but yes you can put the studs in with the heads in place. In fact, often that is the only way to do it with the motor in the car as clearance at the firewall, brake booster and other areas will not allow enough room for the heads to clear the studs.

Absolutely no problem installing the studs after the heads are in place. Done it 7-8 times already. No Loctite at all, only the ARP lube. Make sure that the threads are clean and that there is no coolant in the holes.

Only thing that I can think of concerning tape is that the one poster was confusing installing an intake where you tape the bolts up to get them under the cowl.
