max width tire on the V
does anyone know the max tire width?? i have a set of the GM optional wheels that i was thinking of having widened to a 10 inches and was wanting a 315 on it it if it can take it... but i had a set of 275 on the 8.5. also wondering if a 285 or 295 could be streched... any one go wider... what spaces did you use if any... any one who gone wider post it up... would greatly appreciate it...

On a V1 . . for the rear: 285/35/19 or 295/30/19 and that is keeping the diameter within 3% or less of stock diameter.
Basically any tire with a treadwidth "wider than 10 inches" and within 3% of stock diameter, you're have a problem.
315s idea??? Scrub if you're not willing to Tub.

i tuck a 285/25/20 nitti invo on a 10.5 wheel and clearance is <1mm... if i drive aggressively i'll actually scrape a little sidewall... i won't hear/feel it, but i'll notice it on the tire itself.

Here's whats going on mine
Got my stockers widened to 10", tires are 295/35/18.
I have MAP trailing arms for extra clearance, 5mm spacers just incase. I'm also lowered
2" in the rear.

if the sidewall would've been smaller i would disagree... but considering the 285s i have run a 25 sidewall and are literally up against my inner fenderwall leaving <1mm of clearance and these being wider and taller, i'd say you're right.

Talked with Den, he's the guy running the same set up on the V parts page. He has no problems and even figures he can run without a spacer. My spring rates for the rear is much stiffer than stock, I also plan on getting BMR toe rods to help with camber flex. I figure it should work out, if I need to mod anything I will. I was going to go with a 285 tire untill Den answered a few questions I had.
Rims are off to be powder coated soon, as soon as my V comes out of hibernation I'll post the results.
The tire diameter is smaller than stock, so I won't be up into the fender any more than stock, also the 5mm spacers I have will push the tire towards the outter fender.

cant wait to see the results! I'm about to put new tires all around and wanted to go wider than 275 in the back if possible. If I have to widen the rear wheel, get spacers and new trailing rods then so be it

285 tires
I had a pair of new 285/35/18's just laying in my garage. While my stock rims were being widened, to check for clearance purposes, i had them mounted on a set of stockers 8.5...handled like ****, almost rolled the V twice....but they did not scrape anywhere and i am lowered 2"...i let about 10lb. of air in ea. tire and it handled much better but still unsafe when braking in and out of traffic...My new rims are done and they are at 9-3/4"..These will fit with the garbage MAP trl. arms and the 285's but,, i might try 295's...The 295's require a min.10" rim, but i hope just an 8th of an inch on ea. side pertruding will not affect the handling or have any fitment issues.. It will be weeks b/4 my engine swap to test drive but i will get back with the results of the 295's...BTW: if my rims were widened to 10" i would need a small spacer cause it will hit the stabilizer bar....IMO: if u are going to widen stock rims, go to 9-3/4 to be safe...i learned the hard way and had them widened then narrowed back to 9-3/4" at a cost of $1,250....so don't make the same mistake i did....
