water pump install question-urgent!
I'm installing a water pump for the 2nd time (it leaked) and the one I took off originally had the metal gaskets. I bought a new one from autozone and it came with the cardboard gaskets. When I put it on I reused the metal gaskets and didn't use any sealant and it leaked. I tried tightening the bolts and it didn't help.
So... I have it off again and before I try to put it back on which gaskets should I use? Should I use the metal ones and try them with sealant? Or, should I use the ones that came with the new pump? I really don't want to do it a third time but I'd like to keep the metal gaskets if possible so I don't have to scrape the stuff off in the future. Think the metal gaskets are incompatible with the aftermarket pump? The gaskets that came with the pump do seem a little thicker.

Stick with the metal gaskets, there should be an Oring bonded to them. I have never had them leak, and I have re-used them. They are the ones you should be using. I know fel-pro puts them in their timing cover gasket sets, so you should be able to buy them no problem. If not go get some from the dealer and youll be fine. Dont put any sealant on them the Ring will seal fine.
And dont over torque them, torque to spec. I think its like 18 ft. lbs

^^ Where would you get the gaskets? Is this a dealer only part, or would Autozone carry them?
Reason I ask is I just discovered that I'll be doing this job sometime in the near future.

Im going to be building a 427 and I dont want to reuse any of the old gaslets, are the felpro gaskets better than the oem? I have a friend that works at autozone so he can get me gaskets at a discount.
