Default what would be best? 4l60 or 4l80?

i have a 2000 SS im about to start planning out the build i want for this vehicle. This is my first automatic car im planning on building for myself. Most i have seen built in my area and on cars that i have worked on have been 4l60e's but have been a lot of 400-500 hp cars, but i am looking at more. I do not have an exact plan or anything, but i am thinking of a 427ci turbo car or possibly procharger. Well with that size of motor and going forced induction i think i will exceed any limits of a 4l60, but a guy around here is saying no. i think he is wrong. Can i get some input on this? Also i want overdrive obviously otherwise it would be a turbo 400. thanks a lot in advance.

One more thing. Does anyone know what the ideal converter would be for a setup such as this? i want a converter with a hard launch and at the same time will hold up well on the top end.

For what your talking about I would probably do an 80E. Its easy to put up 600-700rwhp and the 80e will be a much more reliable unit. As far as the converter that is a question I would leave up to the converter manufacturer. Once you figure out he engine then its time to figure out the converter. They will ask you questions about your setup and tell you what they feel would be best for you. HTH Vince

I feel you don't need a high rpm stall with boost, you will be making so much torque .look at a converter for truck pulling maybe.

Definitely go with the 4L80E. At that power level a 4L6XE will probably

Depends on your budget. I ran a Performabuilt lv2 trans good up to 700 hp and was throwing 800 rwhp to it in my old set up for 2 years and serval bottles of nitrous with no issues. It all depends how the trans is built. There are pros and cons with both. The thing you need to worry about is get a trans that is built right.
