Another LT1 departure, going turbo LM7
Crossing over to the darkside, went through my 3rd LT1 in 4 years and am moving on. Have a lot of you guys to thank for steering me in the right direction for parts. I just feel I have bad luck with LTs and need to move on to something more budget minded. All you big guys in the LT world keep the spirit aliveHere is the partout thread if anyone wants anything off my setup. https://ls1tech.com/forums/parts-cla...1-partout.html
For now the plan is to go with a turbo LM7 (5.3). My friend is selling me his shortblock with 25K on it, heads with springs/some portwork, rockers and valvecovers for $650. The setup will be
LM7 shortblock
241 heads
LS6 or LS9 cam
Truck manifold hotside
Ebay FMIC
67-76mm Turbo
T56 w LS7 clutch kit
Twin intank pumps w/60-65lb/hr injectors
BBK Intake
Should make mid to high 500s on 12-15 psi

I'm assuming the lm7 is a 24x motor. If so, that ls6 cam will bolt in, but I think you need something more to bolt that ls9 cam in. the front timing covers and some other stuff? was looking at this too. Everyone wants that ls6 cam, so used they are going for $150, but that ls9 cam is $150 new. Also, consider the ls9 headgaskets as well? what are you going to do for the hot side?

lingenfelter has the ls9 cam on their site as a 3 bolt not a single bolt.
edit for forum link talking about using this cam in a earlier engine. looks like you'll need an extra 200+ in parts to use it.

No its done, and I'm not doing anything to them, never even made it to the track. The LS6 cam is a great budget cam. Hot Rod just did a test using a stock 5.3 longblock and that cam. With no meth or intercooleer they were just under 600 at the crank at 12 psi. I'm planning on running 15lbs with beter heads

The LM7 is a very underrated motor what with the bigger ci LS1 and Lq4 out there. Car Craft did an NA build with it where they threw on some edelbrock heads a small cam and some headers and twisted somewhere in the neighborhood of 420 out of it. I'm thinking about picking up a little S-10 and dropping a fun little 5.3 in it.

I was thinking the same thing, you went through 3 motors in 4 years? Sounds more like incorrectly set up motors than an LT1 issue. That or they were seriously abused. No offense I would just like to know what went so wrong each time. My original stock bottom end has been running strong for 14 years now, and I drive it very hard.

should run for a long time. i will be intersested to hear your results. the one they built in hot rod was pretty dang impressive. i happened to pick up that issue when i was at skills usa and saw SAM's ls2 car they knocked the liners out of to put bigger liners in if i remember right it was a little over a 500 ci motor. good luck
