Default Installed my edge racing converter today

I just installed my converter today and I am worried about it being in all the way. I did get it to go in until I heard a couple clicks, I measured from the bell housing to the converter mounting pads I got just under 1and1/8in. I am sure it was in all the way, but when I bolted it up to the motor the converter was just under 1/4in away from the flexplate; I am thinking this might be too far and when I bolted the converter down it might have pulled it out too far from the trans. I am not sure if I am over thinking things here; let me know what you guys think.

You need to be 3/16 or less from the flywheel. You probably will need machined washers to shim inbtween to make the clearance right

take an 1/8in drill bit and it should fit snug with the converter still pushed all the way in. If it is, your good. My bellhousing to pad measurement wasnt spot on but the spacing was.

The converter is brand new. So being that I already have the converter bolted to the flexplate will I be able to unbolt it from the flexplate and push it back without pulling the trans?

Good god man. Unbolt that thing and check your measurments. You need in between 3/16 and 1/8. A search would have helped you a ton! Heres from my install hope this helps...

Well I pulled it back today and I found that the 1/8 drill bit fit really loose between the converter and flexplate. I ended up adding a thin 1/16 thick washer between the converter and the flexplate; at least I am 100% sure the converter is in correctly now. I think the 3200 converter should make a huge difference. I have never driven a stalled car before; let alone a heads and cam 355 lt1, so I think the first time I go wot from a stop I am going to crap my pants.

ok so you put an 1/8 inch bit in and its really loose? IMO thats not enough...you should have tried sticking in the 3/16 bit to give you a better idea of how much space there is. How can you be 100% sure its correct? Now because you didnt check with the bigger bit, who knows how much space was really there! Heck maybe you needed 2 washers or an 1/8 washer!

Yea also, did you get a machined washer as I said above? if not you need to. Your going to kill the pump in your trans and grenade your whole transmission if you didn't shim it enuf.

The washer I used was silver from Lowes I am sure it was thick enough, because when I held the washer up and tried to get the 1/8 bit in it was really tight I almost could not get the bit in between the flexplate and tq converter. I am sure it is was enough shim, but now what is the difference between a machined washer.

Good answer. Thats what I did when I put my washer in there and the 1/8 bit just barely slid in. I used washers I had in my basement. Just as long as they are all the same it should be good I would think.

You're going to be impressed, I love my 3200 edge in the 87. smidge looser than stock, but you won't notice after a week. nice and tight driving, but really gets into the powerband once you start getting into the throttle.

great converter for the money.

let us know!

OK now I can relax; I was starting to think that I needed some special hardened washers. I will let you guys know if the converter was worth all the trouble and $$.

OK guys I had the car running and took it for a short drive. I was expecting the car to feel like the trans was slipping at light throttle; I also had a trans shop tell me it is going to be too much stall, but what I noticed is the darn car feels almost stock until I went WOT. The car has a lot more from a stop now and fells way better; I expected it to make a difference but not as much as it has. This was with a bad opti and a miss at low rpms; for some reason my opti was causing the motor to kick back and fight against the starter, now I have a destroyed starter and bad opti. I am really happy with the stall even with a bad opti it is a huge difference and almost unnoticeable until it is floored.
