Default Infrared Nav

I was playing with the radio with morning before work and found this.
In the address book you can sent the information to an IR (Infrared) device.
The IR sender is located in the upper right side.

Has anyone used it?
It old technology now but still cool.

I would be more concerned with the fact that it looks like someone scribbled on your NAV screen with a black marker...

I noticed the "beam" option the other night messing with the NAV stuff. I *almost* went inside to get an iPaq and play with it, but then remembered I was on my way to Orlando...

Too bad you couldn't do a datalogger function off of it...That would be way too much to ask for that nav system, lol.

My Nav locks up when you play with it alot. Sucks on road trip.

I was just kidding about the scribbling.

The older generation iPaq's do have IR, but I'm sure it's been phased out generations ago (technologically speaking) for bluetooth and other interface means.

I can still change the channels on TV's with my iPaq... usefull in sports bars but that's about it.

the only IR device that will work with our nav is an older palm treo type device. it's basically useless.

The entire NAV unit on the V1 is a sad story.

I have that one, too. iPaq 3970? I had that HP Nav software and it was my portable navigation solution for a while before I got a smart-phone.

I don't care so much that the nav part of the radio sucks, as I use a map if I need to know where I'm going and a gps is a nice novelty. However, the whole unit kind of sucks and the worst part is we're stuck with it, as it controls too much of the car's info and functions, argh. Never seen an oem system that is very good (compared to aftermarket) and it would at least be nice to have an option, but no. Oh well, just glad I don't need to rely on gadgets to know where I'm going

Check out the nav units in the new Fords. My brothers 2011 GT with the Sync is the most badass nav unit ive ever seen. Bluetooth, USB, controls a/c, heat, map is badass with live traffic updates for accidents etc, shows the weather, movie times all kinds of ****.

I'll agree. Sync is the best oem nav system I have ever used, at any price point. Through my family I have access to a brand new Audi (A8), MB (s550) and GM(escalade) and out of them all my Raptors Sync system is easily the most up to date, useful (it can control everything), and user friendly.

That's good to hear it's available then, just too bad GM can't ever seem to get good electronics for stereos; least that's the way it's been to me for the past say 20 years or so.

I'm not into gadgets and stuff, although guess it's neat it comes with it AND more importantly functions correctly (Ford) as it's supposed to. GM will probably catch up but do some wierd thing again. Getting harder for me to be a fan of their offerings anymore post 2009-ish...
