Default LS1 engine shut off!!

My car has the drivetrain from a 2002 Camaro SS with a 6spd. I was driving down the freeway doing 70 for over 100 miles and my engine shut off. I tried to restart it and it just cranked. My temp was 197 according to my scan gauge. I pulled over and everything under the hood was fine. My fuel pressure gauge read 58 lbs. The ac was on and I don't run it very often, could that contribute somehow? That was the only thing different and this has never happened before. I fired it up after checking it out and it ran fine. Didn't run the ac the rest of the trip and continued my last 100 miles. Any thoughts?

My initial thought is a failing alternator, but I'd think you'd have another flair-up on the final 100 miles if that were true. Unless it is a failing alternator or fuel pump, it almost sounds like an anomaly. Any symptoms before it died?

I am obsessive about looking at my Gauges and never noticed a loss of charging. I have seen fuel pumps lose pressure over time but could it lose pressure all together and then come back in full force later? I changed it a 4 or five years ago with a Walbro 255.

Yeah, I don't think it does a full-fail and can recover for long periods like that. Like you said, it usually has the hesitation symptoms (stuttering throttle response) before dying completely.

If your gauges looked okay and nothing seemed out of place, I'd chalk it up to a freak event. Would be a first for me.

this happened to me once & it was crank & cam sensors replaced.
In your case check fuel pressure at rail.
