Default Need a head suggestion for 228/228 cam

Aight guys I need help with deciding on which head that will make the best compliment my cam 228/228-570/570-112+4. the car is a 2000 T/A stock displacement LS1 with Mods in sig with a 3600 stall and getting rid of the N2O. On a mustang dyno car made 382rwhp and 376ft-lbs. I would like to stay with my cam and just switch to a 243 style head. A local shop recommended TEA stage 2s mill down to 59cc's. Id like to hear what u guys think. Should I go with the TEAs and call it a day or look for something that is better Performing? The car is a street car with maybe 1 or 2 track sessions a year. Let me know what you think

Thanks
Z

TEA is great to do business with and their products and services are first rate.

yeah id do a ported/milled 243 based head if on a budget, they seem to put out better results then the 5.3 heads with the smaller cams.

I heard only good things about TEA which is why i felt comfortable going with them. I first considered AFR but I don't think with my cam they will live up to their potential.

2 questions tho;
1-If I'm getting TEA heads is it wise to have them port my FAST 90?
2-If I consider to change my cam as well but stay with something that is going to provide good torque and not max effort, then should I stay wit the TEA's?

Thanks for the replies guys

As I said, TEA is my preferred supplier having done business with them. But you cannot go wrong with AFR, TEA, or Advanced Induction. Any of them can give you expert advice, supply you with a great heads, match port an intake, and provide a good cam choice (custom or shelf grnd) that will work well with your combination.

Like gary said, don't forget to throw PRC in the bunch. We have been doing this for awhile and I feel our heads can compete with anyone out there!

If you happy with you current cam power band stick with what you have or better yet go with a higher lift cam with about the same duration and lsa. I think you're on the right track, a little bump in the compression and TEA higher flowing heads with your current cam or high lift cam should give a nice power increase, with the same driveability, and if you plan on sticking with the FAST 90 go ahead and get it ported to maximize it's power potential.

John-the PRC's are def a consideration. The shop I am dealing with has to get back to with a date when the parts will be available. I know you guys stock a lot of parts so I may be ordering from you if there are any delays. What head would you suggest for my size cam??

99Blu-I want to stay on a 4k installed budget so I figured doing the heads along with a couple other things would be enough for now. The more I look at the situation a cam change may be in the cards. I think something low 230s with a 610-620 lift would be where I want to be if I make the switch.

I would recommend the stg 2.5 LS6 heads for that cam. Since you already like the power band of the cam, the LS6's would complement well because they should pick you up power almost everywhere.

If I was to go with those heads and keep my cam I could mill the heads quite a bit couldn't I? Added compression is like free horsepower right?

Yes we would be able to mill them some and get some extra compression in the motor. These motors always respond well to added compression.

Jon-Thank you very much for all your help. If anything changes I'll be ordering some Stage 2.5's from you guys shortly.

Thanks,

Last year when I had it tuned it was at 98% duty cycle so I'm getting 42lb Injectors and the retune. Since it was just tuned by the same shop they r giving me a great deal on the package of injectors and retune. So I could possibly pick up a set of used, 10k miles on them, AFR 205s for $1700 shipped. Is it worth it or just buy a new head? I'd like to get the AFRs since they seem to be strong performers but would they b well suited for my combination?

The shop has been trying to get in touch with TEA to see that availability of their heads. They are not having much luck getting a hold of them, so those used AFR's are looking like a possibility.

Another question is it worth having my FAST 90 port matched or having the whole intake ported? I have seen mixed reviews with no solid evidence that its worth the money. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Z
