Default Starter Grinding on new flywheel...

So i put a TCI flywheel on my car throughout my new build and for some reason when the starter engages there is a serious grinding issue to the point where i even broke a starter be4 i realize what was actually happening (tried to turn the motor over like 5 times). I counted the teeth to make sure its the correct flywheel (168 or 169 i forget), and than put an .080" shim in there and it fixed the problem a little but the starter gear still doesnt disengage the flywheel because theres too much friction holding it out. Does anyone else have this problem? Does everyone usually have to out in a shim or is it just me?

Im more concerned something else is wrong if im the only one who needs to put in a shim.

Anyone who has input i would appreciate it...

Thank you.

Default

I would add another shim and see how it goes.
