Default Cam Only Results...A Little Confused

I had my car dyno tuned yesterday at The Shop in Norwalk, CT and put down like 50 more hp than I was expecting...Am I underestimating my car or do these dyno's just read high? I mean, it's literally cam/exhaust and that's it.

They couldn't get an accurate AFR reading because my exhaust rattled too much for their probe and I don't have a wideband reader... Final pull was at 33* timing with zero knock.

I'll just copy my post from the cam only thread to make things easier...

1999 Trans Am M6

Comp Cams Custom Grind .610/.613 242/246 110 LSA
7.4" Pushrods
Patriot Gold Valve Springs
QTP Long Tube Headers & Catless Y-Pipe
SLP Loud Mouth II Catback
Lid
4.10s

Stock 853 heads
Stock LS1 Intake
Stock MAF/TB (descreened MAF)

Ambient temp of 85~ degrees.

Haha yes it says "2000 Pontaic" but they were just taking the info off the computer, it's got a 2000 pcm...

I don't know you have a pretty big cam but those numbers seem too high should be more like 400-410 I would think.

As long if it got a good tune wouldn't stress it. But I would have asked the tuner that seems inflated .. but it doesn't matter just wait for a dyno day on a diff dyno see what it throws down

Yeah I'm not worried or care that much, I was just wondering if that type of dyno read high or whatever. That number is going to change regardless, it's no longer going to be a cam only car soon...

+1 on taking it to the track.
But to find out if that dyno reads high or not, tell us what your baseline was...

First pull was 420, final was 445.

Track yes, soon, but not expecting great ET, running on doo doo stock suspension. I'll be in it for the MPH mostly...

Is it uncorrected (STD)?

I would be more concerned about the lack of AFR and 33* myself. How do you even know if its tuned correctly and safe to drive without risking #7?

Personally I would seek out another tuner. Take it up and see Don at Slowhawk Performance. He will tune it so it won't detonate on the street.

Yea no way you're making that power. Just throw the sheet up on Facebook for bragging rights but it's not right. Traditionally Dyno Dynamics read the lowest but they're also the easiest dynos to manipulate. A couple of clicks and it goes from low to whatever you want it to be at.

A small example, there's a local import shop around here. Obviously won't name any names but they have a Dyno Dynamics. When they first got it they had the stock calibration on it for the longest. This dyno was known to put down low numbers. My 100 shot+exhaust 02 GT put down 306 whp on it but it ran strong at the track. You'd expect 330-340 whp on a DJ.

Fast forward a few years, some people leave the shop and others come in. Well now their Dyno Dynamics is a joke. You see incredibly impossible numbers coming out. Cars that should be making 180 whp roll out with 240+ dyno sheets. On top of that you see these cars run other people with "less" power or their trap speeds at the track and they're nowhere near their claims lol.

I do not see 440+ with that sized cam through an LS1 intake and 4.10 gears on a properly loaded DD.

Sweet ride though OP.

I saw that to. 33* of timing will break #7 in no time.

uh ya.. dyno is off.. I know what 450hp sounds like on a dyno.. took WAAAAYY too long to get to the top.. Sounded more like 410 reving to redline..

If I had no idea where my car was at, I would never strap it down on a dyno without a Air Fuel reading. Get that car checked out ASAP by a reputable tuner before you end up with a 6k dollar mistake.

Your dyno curve seems smooth. I doubt its knocking.

Whats all this talk about #7?

Is the #7 cylinder more prone to detonation on the ls1?
