Default Cant run DR's and stay in my class. Next best option?

Hey guys, I posted this in the Drag Racing section but thought it might be appropriate here as well.. This year I have been doing a local Street Car Shootout series and in order to stay in my class I must keep with street tires.. I have gotten 1.97 60 foots on the Hankook tires I have right now but the normal launch is right at a 2.0X.. I actually think that’s fairly good for a street tire with a 280 tread wear.. The class will allow me to run a street tire as low as 180 tread wear though so do you guys know of a tire that has a great reputation for hooking at the track?? Please let me know, next round is September 16th and I need every edge I can get

One thing for sure is just run real low tire pressure and cook the sh** out of them before you run.

I have the factory wheels so I can run a 275-40-17 on them at the track instead of the 255-40-18 I am running now.. I am thinking of maybe trying these.. Any thoughts??

all thats doing is destroying the tire, street tires don't need big burnouts.

Another thing, don't drop the pressure to low. Right around 26-30psi will probably be best with a street tire.

+1 all a big burnout does is make them greasy, all you need is a quick spin to get the crap off the tires.

I was going to suggest a road race style tire, I have heard of guys going 1.7 60s with road race tires and road race suspensions.

No and no. At 25+ pounds the tire loses all ability to absorb the power. Now at 18/20 pounds, the tire will actually get mushy and allow you to apply more power before wheelspin is induced. Big difference in 25 lbs vs. 18 on a street tire.
