A matter of opinion...
Hey guys quick question, I'm in a situation of either replacing my cats with high flows or just gutting them entirely. I own a LT1 with magnaflow cat back, now if I were to get High flow magnaflow cats would I have emission issues with the levels? I read that CA has made high flow cats illegal, that's why I was wondering. As for gutting them, I heard people say that it would be better to put in metal pipes for better flow, apparently just gutted cats worsens performance some how and its better run pipes within them or just straight pipes altogether. Finally, do any of you that do run no cats, have issues with getting Police attention?

Yeah Gutted cats not sure will worsen the performance but the smell alone is worth putting High flows. I have the Random Tech Cats which come with carb number. My brother ran them on his LT1 camaro too with Zero emissions issues.
Just run High flows and call it a day. The rasp is nasty.

I am running high flow cats on my 1997 lt1 and I passed smog with the lt4 hot cam; I have yet to smog it with the 355 heads and hot cam, but I am sure it will pass. My ses light never comes on for the rear O2s, but I have a mail order tune and the sensors may have been tuned out. If you do throw codes with the high flow cats you could just install O2 simulators and that problem will be fixed. I even ran the car with gutted cats and cam for a few weeks; it smelled extremely bad but I never got pulled over, I would not run it with gutted cats. Now I have magnaflow high flow cats and I passed smog even with the hot cam.

weird how I would have to order from Nevada when the factory is in RSM, they don't sell to public.

I have High flow cats on my Trans Am and my 383 stroker LT1 Camaro no SES light. If you get a light you can put a spacer on the O2 sensors and done deal. Still pass smog too.
these are the cats I run

Those of you that run with no cats, do you run into many issues with Cops? if so is it always just a fix it ticket? I heard a lot of people say things about a 1500 ticket and or towing your car away.

I have SLPs LTs, SLP Y-Pipe, and GMMG exhaust. It is extremely loud. I run no cats, so every 2 years I pay $180 for smog. This year i've gotten 3 modified exhaust tickets. I just pay $174 everytime. I don't bother fixing it. I haven't ran into a cop checking for cats, but also heard they range in the thousand dollar area.

180 smog, 174 x 3 for tickets. Just this year you paid 700 for no cats.
Plus it smoothen outs the sound and rasp. And you don't go on a date smelling like gas.

I have no cats on my car, it sounds ******* mean at WOT and I don't have any rasp and barely any smell of gas. I've never been bothered by the cops with my setup, but I do live in canada
