Gennex, you will probably have an easier time finding OTS pistons for a 4.0 stroke crank. Are you dead set on using the 3.9 crank. I am looking to purchase one and could possibly work a trade with you for a 4.0 crank. I have 3.9 stroke pistons for a ls3 block (4.070) and 6.125 rods. I want that stroke for my build. On an iron block, 4.0 stroke works well. didn't know if you were dead set on 3.9 as well if you had the option

Dustin, I would talk to whoever is going to balance your assembly about using the ls7 crank with those heavier rods and pistons. The bobweight will be much higher than with the titanium rods. you will probably have to add a lot of mallory $$$

mike,
i actually found out some learned some good information, i kept the 3.9 crank, i went with the callies ultra billet rods, 6.125 length and had 0.025" taken off the pistons. everything came out perfect.
additionally i researched those k1 rods and they are not a true billet rod, they are basically the same rod as the callies compstars. 800flywheel hp is what callies rated those rods at, i ran them at 1300 flywheel for over a year and was ok until my boost controller hit 35psi and boom. the pistons looked ok, i actually think the rods just broke.

I am building a 406 based ls3. It is going to be N/A. It's in a Mazda RX7. I liked the idea of the slightly shorter stroke since I keep hearing about piston skirt wear on the 4.0 stroked aluminum blocks. The guy who is getting me the block has a set of Mahle 4032 pistons setup for 3.9 stroke and 6.125 rods. He has rods as well. The 4032 pistons are lighter and can run tighter piston to bore. Since my car is so light and since I will be road racing it, Lightweight rotating assembly ids my goal. He had a line on a used scat 3.9 crank, but it sold He can get me either a K1 or RPM international crank.
How did your K1 crank mic out. From what I read, they are very similar in quality to the compstar. I think I may have to get one of these new.
