which cam should i go with
i have an '00 T/A with a rebuilt 700r A4 tranny on a 2800 stall and a KnN intake filter. sometimewithin the next month i will be installing the ls6 intake manifold, lt headers with ory pipe and i want to put in the TREX cam. but my question is that i know this is a very large cam and i will be replacein the entire valve train (minus the heads) will this cam be too big for my ws6? i know this cam's powerband starts at a rather high rpm. i want to get the buiggest bang for my buck (just like ev1 else) but i dont want to lose low end power. i also do not want to end up tearing up my engine due to a stock bottom end i do plan on rebuilding the bottom end but not for a while and im rather new to tuning besides the diablo sport predator i have but if any one knows where i could find a good tuner in illinois to take my car to after the cam swap it wuld be much appreciated. any knowledge on the TR224 cam as well? i know these are a lot of different topics and i dont expect resonses to all of them i juss wanna get some other PO to help my decision. this is a tough one for me
thanks,
Knapp

You're going from opposite ends of the spectrum talking about the TREX and then about the TR224. You're going to be disappointed if you install a TREX cam with that converter. Read the cam guide in the internal engine section.

never herd of a trex v2 cam.the t rex is a race cam, needing a big stall and proper gears.the tr224 is a great street cam.look at a TSP cam pkg also or consider a 222/226 EPS cam.with the milder cams you can retain your stock rocker arms,if low mileages.how many miles on your motor?

Ya I don't know that much about cams but I do know that the TREX will beat the **** outta your LS1, you def need a bigger stall, heads, rearend, etc. Intake and LTs is not enough.

Even the stock engine will benefit from a higher stall speed than your current 2800. And why do you have a 700R4?
You should consider a stall upgrade before getting any cam. Go at least 3500 for a TR or TSP 224 type cam, and 4000+ for the BIG cams. Gears won't need to be changed if you pick the proper stall speed, but the 4000+ stalls might feel a bit loose on the street if you keep the stock gears.
I'm not a fan of the donkey dick cams for street cars. I really like the cams in the 222-228 duration range. A great street setup would be something like TSP224, S2 243 heads, LS6 intake with P&P stock TB, LTs with custom true duals, and a 3500 stall. With a full custom tune, this will have excellent street manners, good logevity (in terms of valvetrain parts/maintenance) great torque everywhere and a reasonable peak HP rpm for the street. You will be able to go WOT at any speed/rpm, and the car will feel like an animal compared to how it does now.
Now, if you are trying to build a race car, then I would suggest a very different setup.

What do you mean? There are plenty of people that DD their cars with the Trex. Can you explain what you mean when you say it will "beat the **** outta your LS1"?

Like I said in the beginning of the sentence, "Ya I don't know that much about cams," so thank you for clarifying that it's possible

Did you take a peak of my mod list? That's exactly how I want my set up to be minus true duals, staying w/ my catback and going for a 3600. If I get cammed, would want it in the 224ish range, I'm guessing that's mild? I want a mild cam.

There are even milder cams, like 220° aftermaket grinds, stock LS6 cams, etc. But 224-228 range is a good spot that still boarders on the mild side of midrange.

hey didnt mean for a fight to start on my thread i have been loooking well into FMS's F14 cam with a 112LSA it has a great powerband for my stall and with a nice tune i think will be just what im looking for. i will not need to change my stock gears as well because the power band starts out at 2800-6300. so ill be able to rather have my cake and eat it too for a nice street monster. IMPO..... any side comments/review/ or even other cams this size would be much appreciated.
thanks for everyone's help on my multiple threads i have posted i do apoligize i just wanted to get ia wide range of background info on the cam. !!
