best gears for an 8th mile track
so here it is, I have a 6spd, full bolt ons and cam. I have stock gears and on a 8th mile track could only get to the top of third gear before i ran out of track. what would be a good set of gears to get me out and into my power quicker?

Something ain't right. Either you don't have 3.42s, you're running a **** pile of nitrous lol, or you're shifting at 5200rpm. 3.42s on stock tires at 6200 rpm is 106mph. Theres no way your doing that in the 1/8th with just a cam and bolt ons. I got 4.10s and my cam/bolt on car and I can almost do the 1/8th in 3rd. You should only be trapping around 90mph.

ok i may be confused on what is in the rearend, I was under the understanding that i had stock gears in the rearend. I put it on the lift and did the spin the driveshaft trick to get a ballpark idea of what i have. It went around a little less than three and a half times, so i figured i had 3.42. Guess i am wrong. Whatever it is i topped out in third gear at 10.17. Mind you on street tires and spinning. What would be a good gear for a 6spd? I used to have 3.73's in my auto and they were amazing on the street and good at the track. any ideas? thanks guys

It all depends on your goals for the car, how much money you have and how often you track the car. I like 4.10s for any NA m6 car on the street. If you plan on keeping the car the way it is they will work great, maybe just up your rev limiter a little. If you end up doing heads or nitrous you may want to get 3.73s instead so you don't have to shift into fourth. If your on the stock 10 bolt and you already have a cam I wouldn't bother doing gears just start looking at an aftermarket rear. The 4.10 pinion is alot weaker/smaller than a 3.42 pinion.
