Default Am I the only one with a 2000+ that wants an older wheel?

I ask because I drove my buddies 99 Camaro the other day and it made me realize how much I hate my steering wheel. Does anyone know if the airbag would be compatible with a 99 since I have a 2000. I know from what Ive read it will bolt up.

I don't know but I also like the 98-99 steering wheels cause they say Camaro on it instead of the bow tie, only thing I miss from my old '99.

Oh Wow, that brought back memories from my old 95 camaro. Thx BoricuaHec.

I agree the older style looks better, but theres no way I could give up my steering wheel controls for looks.

Snake Skinner, I was thinking the same thing, I had a flashback to my 96 Z28.

So, are the wheels the same diameter? Also, are they interchangeable?

x2 lol. When I had the '99 I would tell myself, "man, I wish i had the controls on my steering wheel" lol, so basically its a win win scenario for the both steering wheels.

the wiring through out the column is the same, even on 3rd gen columns.. when you pull the bag off the connector, it should be the same.. just plug your new bag into it when the new wheel is on.. i have a wheel and a bag if you are interested.. goodluck to you man! it does look so much cleaner and heck with the controls! i hate em to be honost lol

You made a thread about this just a few days ago (in this very section), why in the world would you make a new one and not just bump the old one?

Anyways, I've gone the opposite way and it can be done. Just get you a 93-99 Wheel and an airbag from a 98-99 Camaro (97's may work as well, just check the rear to make sure it looks like the one below):

All you have to do is remove the old wheel / airbag and put on the older style wheel and airbag and you're done. If you have all the stuff at hand it shouldn't take more than 15 to 20 minutes to swap.

I prefer the older wheel too. The newer one with the controls isn't too bad I guess, but the newer one without controls just screams ugly at me for some reason. And since I never have any use for the steering wheel controls (I run aftermarket head units typically and the volume **** is right within reach anyway) and I don't want useless buttons all over, I'll take the older wheel.

Although, I wonder if you could rewire it to have the seek or volume button on the wheel be a nitrous button...

I like my 98 wheel. I feel like it allows you better access for 9 and 3 driving that they teach you in HPDE schools.
