Default Modded thermostat anyone?

So I've got my thermostat off of my car and I'm trying to put this tiny tiny piece of brass in place to help it open sooner. If anyone else on here has done this mod can you tell me what you know please...thanks.

That's an old howto mod but it doesn't work on the later thermostats,
at least not well.

You don't need to change from stock temp until you make crazy high
power with either high CR or high boost. In any case you should spend
your effort on cooling airflow and heat-throw (fans and radiator,
settings and cleaning) because no matter how low you set the 'stat
temp it has nothing - N.O.T.H.I.N.G - to do with the maximum temp
at the heads. Nothing. Did I mention "nothing"?

Except maybe if you only cared about the quarter mile and wanted
a little cooler starting temp betting it would last for the length of the
track. But for daily driving or road racing, 'stat temp has zero high
side authority until you back it up with decent heat throw, which is
where these cars come up short. Shitty skinny radiator primarily as
well as pulling the air right off the hot pavement and lousy factory
fan settings.

And if you're not at the edge of dieseling from CR or boost going
low in temperature buys you squat for power and costs you in
efficiency (which when airflow limited you need all you can get).

I shimmed my early-style t'stat to a 170° opening point, works great! IIRC, I used a pop-rivet washer that was about 0.080" thick...
