was i sold a 2000 trans as a 2002?
well bought this transmission a 2 years ago planning to do a t56 swap and now im in the final stages... never knew to check the tag on the trans when i got it. threw it in the corner of the garage and forgot about it. It was being sold as 2002 t56 and ls1 drop out. it was split.
here is what is on the tag
2561561--------M2002 (thats not just the year..)
1386 020---D---21968
If im reading this right the M2002 is the date code.
M(dec)20(day)0(year)2(shift)
if this is really a 2000 trans im gonna be pissed as i sent multiple pm's making sure this was a 2002 because i wanted the steel 3/4 fork
edit...
Actually now that im thinking about it, if this was made dec 20th 2000 i guess it would technically have the 01 and 02 updates right? could it have sat around for another 6-8 months to be thrown into a 2002 car sold mid 2001? who knows... i hate buying used parts... just makes everything else that was said about it suspect... like 60,000 miles and it shifted great. guess ill find out.

The tag read / date code is correct: Dec20, 2000, 2nd shift.
Don't make too big a deal of this , as the contents were the same. I believe there were no OE Fcar units build with a steel fork.
This unit is level D. The last level produced was level M and it ( also) did not have an iron fork.
