Default ? for TH400 guys

What kind of revs are you running on the street? and with what stall/rear gears.

I'm still debating between a TH400, T56, or new TKO...

I would like to know also. What are the driving characteristics of the TH400.

It's such a pain...the TH400 is definately what I *should* get for my future setup... But my favorite tracks (Englishtown & Maple Grove) are a good 200-250 mile drive away)...go figure...

But I figure with the manuals I'll eat clutches... So the cost could get excessive over time...

27" tall tires, PT4200 converter, 3.70 gear = 3000 rpm at 60mph. If I could get the lockup to work (I have a lockup TH350) that would knock off a couple hundred RPM. 200 miles at 3000 rpm is a long ride after being used to a M6 in one of these cars

I fixed it the easy way, bought a trailer and I will tow it to the 200 mile away tracks - way cheaper then converting it back to a M6

Very Loose TK4000+ stall, 4.10 gears, 28 inch tires. It takes some getting used to with the loose stall. The car will feel a little sluggish at low rpms, but once you kick it in the guts its all go.
The transbrake alone made the swap worth while. For a daily driver I would recommend a little less stall, and a bit tighter converter. My car was never a daily driver, so I went really big on the tranny/stall combo.

Yeah, this won't be my daily driver either- but I don't want to beat the hell out of the motor on those trips either. Maybe I'll just save for a GV overdrive in the future...

So 28" wheels fit without rubbing?

I run a 4000 stall Neal Chance converter. With the stock tires and 3.73 gears the car winds out at 3000 RPM for about 65/70. I've done a couple hundred miles in it at a time and you just have to get used to having it wind out. The only thing you can't do is rocket down the highway like I used to be able to with the 6 speed.

28" Tires do fit on the right rims. Some massaging of the interior fender well is required to keep it from rubbing.

That's "massaging" as in smacking the **** out of the inner fender with a 3lbs hammer. I just beat mine a little bit more because I moved up to an ET Street 28 X 12.5, which has a little wider section (12.5) then my Hoosier 28 X 10.5 drag slicks (11.2). I may air grind my bumpstop mounts off and try to move up to a 28 X 13.5 someday.
My final verdict on the TH400 is that it's fine for short trips and cruising as long as you have a big tranny cooler (I run a 28K GVW) and don't plan on running cross country at 100+ mph. Obviously for drag racing, its a ***** out tranny that will dominate other cars with similar mods and no transbrake.

There are calculators to figure out what the revs would be.. just use 1 for the final gear ratio.

Aram- I've used them but didn't know what to put in for slip so it wasn't being very accurate. I figured best way to find out- would just be to find out from others.

I drive mine a lot......4000 stall, 3.73 gear.......mostly around town, I made highway trips to the track before, but I'm not gonna do that w/the new motor/blower setup.....

Its not bad cruising at 3K when you have the radio turned up really loud......

Default TH400 with Gear vendors

Without gear vendors I was running appro 3500 at 65mph with 3.73 gears and appro 26 tall tires. With the gear vendors and a swap to 3.55 gears (performed both at same time), now I run appro 2600 rpm at 65mph (this is with a 3500 stall). I might try a lower stall (2400) to get a bit more streetablility. With approx 500 ft. lbs or torque, my 3500 stalls more like 4000 and the 2400 should stall more like 3000, go figure.

4600 8" converter, gears, 25" tall tires (235/40 18" tires) 60 mph = 3300rpm
