Default New motor smoking. Details inside

So just got my new motor tuned and #5 piston is smoking BAD. It smokes like a train for about 5 mins then clears up. Let it sit for an hour or 2 and it smokes again. This same hole is also 30lbs less than the rest of them around 230 on the compression test. Any ideas before I tear into it?

sounds like maybe a cracked head but could be a missing valve stem seal . How are You determining it's #5 , is the exhaust not on yet ? You can and will warp some valves running it without exhaust manifolds as after You shut it off cold air will make it's way directly to the HOT valves and cause You all sorts of problems .

could be a ring sealing issue that's negated once the parts heat up and expand to their size at operating temperatures...

That also is a possibility although not as likely . Most likely if it were a ring sealing issue the pcv would not be allowing positive pressure out of the crankcase . But that would cause all cyl's to smoke . And if there were some damage to #5's rings , then it would smoke all the time it were running . I still am curious as to how the op has determined that it's #5 cyl and what color is the smoke and where is it coming out of ?

dunno... It's 4 in the morning, my surgery sites hurt, and I'm buzzing pretty hard on narcotics, so I'm a little fuzzy I just read what the op wrote and thought, "hmm... well, oil from the crankcase could be making it past some fucked up rings and into the combustion chamber at startup, and it could be going away once the metals expand and seal properly"... Not much else thought-wise put into it. I'm about ready to start reading pop up picture books right now.

Plug has oil on it and it's the only one. Looked at the intake runner and valve with a scope and didn't see anything. When I say smoking bad I mean it looks like you have done a 60 second burnout. There is no PVC on this motor it's got 2 big vents on the valve covers. I'm hoping like hell it's an exhaust valve seal and not a busted spring pocket from when the heads were cut for the big springs.

Not a seal if the compression is down. Looks to me like it needs to get torn down. Sorry.

Do a leak down test then you will know whats up for sure before you tear it apart.

Looks like a tear down is in order. Sucks with less than 100 miles on it! Thing burned 2 quarts of oil in less than 100 miles through one hole! The vakve seals looked perfect and I didnt notice a cracked spring pocket.
