Default First time at the drag strip, very pleased

October 1st I took my car to the drag strip for the very first time. I removed all excess items from my car, including the spare tire and jack, arrived at the strip with 1/4 tank of gas. Mods to my car are SLP lid and SLP LM1 cat-back, I also have 2.73's and a 4 speed automatic.

I drove down there with a friend of mine who has a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT 6 speed automatic, bone stock. He regularly talks about how his car has more HP, etc, and it can whoop on my car So we finally set up a day to take them both down and run them. I was expecting a 13.8 or so, but told myself I would be ecstatic if I got a 13.5.

First time up I ran a 13.59. The G8 ran a 14.30.
Second time up I ran a 13.62. The G8 shifted into 1st somehow.
Third time up I ran a 13.57 @104MPH. The G8 ran a 14.37.

Picture below to prove my times. Tell me how you think I did. Oh, and a video will be coming shortly.

On my second pass the windows started to fog up as soon as I took off, so I couldn't see. I got a little nervous and let off the gas at the end.

Here's the video I promised by the way. Pretty sure you can hear my car chirp the tires into 2nd gear.

Was hoping for a higher MPH but I think you did well for your first time out. What was the DA? I was just at Cordova last night and the weather was perfect

Higher MPH? 105MPH isn't good enough for the car? I thought 104 was about average. I'm not sure what the DA was. I know the elevation is about 130 feet. It was a cool night, probably in the 50's or 60's, and the humidity was medium, between 50 and 70%. That's about all I know.

Lmao. I wanted to, especially for beating him so badly. But the bet was the loser buys dinner, and he made good on that, and he was a good sport about losing. Just flat out told me, "You beat me, good job."

In the related videos you should find this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXV_b...eature=related

The Camaro driver recorded similar times to me, and he raced a G8 GT as well, which recorded the same time my friend's G8 did.

I' m really not sure what his problem was, I thought it was supposed to be a lot closer. He did tell me that he thinks he couldn't get traction out of the hole, that he was spinning too much on the launches etc. You have any ideas? I mean, it is an auto...launching is the only somewhat tough part about racing it.

Now put a stall and some 3.73s in it and you will see some 12's!

What was he doing with his tranny? Regular D/sport mode/manual?

Also with the stock tires I could see him spinning with TC off. What was his 60fts? Seems average for them in the 1/4 stock is 13.5-13.8.

Pretty sure he turned traction control off and just put it in D the first time. Left sport mode on the second time. Ran a 14.37 on the second pass.

I used sport mode and held each gear as long as I could when I was stock. Best run I got stock was 13.6. That was with about 75* weather and cutting 2.0-2.1 60ft's on the stock tires. I used to launch at 1000rpms and pretty much nail it out the whole. Few times I had to feather it out the whole as track prep started to suck.

Wait!?!??! I thought all stock ls1 fbodies run 13 flat? At least that is what I keep reading around these parts

Good runs op, I never got to run mine at the track before my main build. I was thinking I be mid 13's with bolt ons.

Yeah I know...the fogged windows though, scared me. I'm still quite pleased with 13.57.

This seems right on par with an auto car, mine bone stock did 13.4's @ 106 and its a 6 speed, with gears and a cat delete only it ran back to back 13.0's @ 108. Never ran a 12 though .. straight into the 11's lol.

good stuff OP.
